They're putting a dirty great motorway through part of the Tara Valley, smashing down several sacred sites and monuments in the way and building over them. The motorway noise will be heard at Tara Hill , the cultural seat of Ireland, where many tourists and Irish people visit annually. There is a camp at the hill of campaigners trying to stop this.

What are YOU doing to stop this ?

  1. first I've heard of it - thanks for sharing. I'll post it on my web sites, encouraging others to act. And I'll write in protest to the government.

  2. Not visiting Ireland.

  3. Nothing.  The motorway is going to be further away than the current main road.  Everyone is saying that it is going through the Hill fo Tara. This is not true.

  4. I respect this, I really do. But please realise that at least in Meath you have proper infrastructure. I live in a beautiful Gaeltacht area of Galway, and down here, our environment is being destroyed by traffic congestion. We have campaigned for years to get a by-pass, but even now, after the Government released its great big Transport 21 plan, we don't feature on it. Apparently, Transport 21 will be completed by 2011, so that means we will have to sit in 5km of bumper to bumper, unmoving traffic for another 5 years, before the Government even contemplates adding more infrastructure to the agenda. Even then, it's unlikely. And that 5km of traffic is still not within the peripheral area of Galway city - that is even more traffic on top of that.

At least the motorway will alleviate traffic for the people of Tara. I know we in our community would kill for a similar transport opportunity.

When the bulldozers and concrete mixers arrive, just tell them there are plenty of areas in the West of the country that would appreciate that motorway much more!

  5. nothing at the moment

    sorry
