  1. real life.

  2. Love Love love

  3. Ugh. I loathe lovesongs!

I like songs that deal with isolation of sorts ... Homelessness, rejection, break ups. Quite dark, so I balance it with sort of more weighted songs - political, environmental and general wellbeing songs.

Remainder - Rites of Spring and Handlebars - Flobots are good examples!

FINALLY, I suppose I like songs that can take the p**s of themselves and anything else come to think of it.

  4. Most of the lyrics that I enjoy listening to consist of the following...

    Fantasy

    Personal Struggles

    Human Responsibilities

    Relationships

  5. Epic songs.

  6. I love listening to songs that seem to be about introspection or learning about who you are... maybe that's because I spend so much time thinking about who I am that it's nice to know other people do it, too... My next favorite would be social commentary. And obviously all of this is better if it's done in metaphors...

  7. Not necessarily in this order but My favorite lyrics usually deal with these types of subjects

    Fantasy

    History

    War

    Philosophy

    The Unknown or Unexplained

  8. I hate romantic love songs.  Or songs where they are singing about a girl or guy by name.  I tend to like sad, sort of depressing songs.(Pink Floyd - Is there Anybody Out There, Hey You)  I agree with the people  who said songs about identity and introspection (The Who-Behind Blue Eyes and most of their songs).  I also like fantasy songs (Led Zepplin)  I like a lot of the lyrics of the Beatles because a lot of their songs have just one or two really memorable lines that are meaningful on different levels,  like you can take them at face value or you can read more meaning into them.   I also like songs where the lyrics don't always make total sense, but you can fill in the blanks.  They just have a certain feel, like Round Here. I also like clever lyrics like something by the Cure.

  9. Ones that aren't about the mainstream ones. Love, getting a girl, etc

  10. any Nirvana lyrics, they don't really make sense but they are great

  11. Masturbation, Drugz.

  12. Love, War, Life I try to find out what the artist is all about in their lyrics. I find you can learn a lot about someone if you take the time and see what they are talking or singing about. Sometimes it can be very eerie. A lot of time the song does not mean what you think it means. Back before video you would have to used your own mind to try and understanding the artist today the video  takes that away. There are only a few artist today that can let you think that way even with a video even through it's still not the same.

    Good Question Smiley

  13. Philosophy

    Real life

    History

    Nature / Folklore / Fantasy

I often find that 'love' can be fitted into all of those subjects...

But I also like there to be a 'darkness' to some songs...

Philosophy tends to be what most Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler songs, and the blend of philosophy, nature / folklore, and real life are typical of Jethro Tull / Ian Anderson.
