Global warming has already taken a major effect on the polar bears and other animals. Soon it may become a risk factor for us. What are you doing/What are you planning to now, or when this occurs?

  1. i sign petitions online

    do free click to donate

    eat meat less often

    drink organics

    recycle

turn out the lights when you walk out of the room

when you sweep your floors, dump it in the grass

    use biodegradable dish soap

    reuse grocery bags

pick up trash anywhere you see it

    (particularly in nature)

give books to the library when you have read them

buy in bulk so you drive to grocery store less

experiment with homeade smoothies, cleaning products, etc.....

  2. Most say I need to get a Polar Bear coat too keep warm

  3. starxcro

Let me start off by saying we (my family and I) live completely, 100% “off of the grid and are completely self sufficient”

The house is built utilizing natures natural elements, in the shape of an octagon with 8ft wide arch doors on every wall to catch every angle of wind (typical 4 sided homes have half the chance as one with 8 sides. A circle being the most efficient design). Woodburning stoves, solar chimney, solar AC, solar heating, solar water heating (pool and home), solar stove, solar power, wind power, hydrogen powered back up generator, hydrogen back up water heater, hydrogen stove, 2 hydrogen powered trucks, 1 EV (electric vehicle) and satellite internet.

We also built many green small cabins on the ranch that we offer to family, friends and our on-site off-grid workshop guests, including one straw bale, one papercrete, earth bag and adobe, one cob and cordwood, one underground and rammed earth, one log and post and beam and one rock. Each one actually started as a test for what the main house would be and were later finished and turned into guest cabins. I later wrote a guide on how to build with alternative materials using alternative methods for next to nothing.

We raise meat and milk goats, chickens for meat and eggs, ducks for meat and eggs, trap havilina (wild boar pig), rabbit, quail. brew our own beer from home grown products, preserve our fruits, vegetables, etc. smoke and jerky the meat, make our own soap, cheese.

There are no utility lines, no water lines, no roads, tv, cell service, etc. on our ranch. EVERYTHING needed is produced here. All electricity comes from 27 solar panels, 2 main wind gens and a back hydrogen generator if needed (typically we can last 9 days with all luxuries of sunless windless weather, hasn't happened yet). Water is caught and storaged from the rain. Hot water is made with solar batch water heaters with an on-demand hydrogen hot water heater as backup. solar chimney, solar AC, solar heating, solar water heating (pool and home), solar stove, solar power, wind power, hydrogen powered back up generator, hydrogen back up water heater, hydrogen stove, 2 hydrogen powered trucks, 1 EV (electric vehicle) and satellite internet. Even our vehicles use alternative energy (2 hydrogen trucks, 1 EV electric vehicle converted). Because of this we have no bills, no debt and no mortgage.

I believe this is the first step anyone can make “help the environment”. Once you convert your own life style to a greener more eco friendly route, you can start helping others.

my home has all the comforts listed above plus some. we live very comfortable without effecting the environment. just saying that tol et you know it's possible. you may not want to go as extreme as me and my family but anywhere in between is something.

Without getting to in depth here, Using alternative fuels in your vehicles and harnessing your own electricity from the sun, water, earth and wind are the 2 are key elements in making a green transition and erasing your carbon footprint.

here's a calculator to find out how much of a green impact your making (carbon footprint)

    http://www.conservation.org/act/live_gre...

if you'd like to make your next step feel free to contact me personally at www agua-luna com

I've been installing home made Solar panels. Solar stoves, Solar batch and inline hot water heaters. Solar radiant heating. Solar home heating and AC, along with home made wind gens and other alternative energy items for the last 3 years.

You can even make the above projects on site with simple parts from the local hardware stores or auto stores or junk yards. For more info check out some guides I wrote / compiled on how to DIY www agua-luna com

Again these projects can be accomplished anywhere by anyone.

if you absolutely can't do anything in your home at least you can put alternative fuels in your car. most major automotive manufacturers (Chrysler, Ford, and General Motors, etc) recommend the use of bio fuels, and nearly every car manufacturer in the world approves ethanol blends in their warranty coverage.

In fact your probably even driving an ethanol car and didn't even know it.

    The trick is finding fuel.

I've been producing biofuel for about 3 years now, it's not extremely difficult. Basically you need general household ingredients, a processor (or still for ethanol) and some used oil. Blend it, let separate, screen and use. I complied a guide a while back to help walk you threw the process step by step, just email me or check out..

as for recyling the best way i've found without taking money from your won pocket is to join a free freecycle group in your area or visit the habitat for humanity.

If you’d like help in making your self sufficient steps, feel free to contact me directly. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at www agua-luna com

on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others “help the environment”.

Hope this helped, feel free to contact me personally if you have any questions if you’d like assistance in making your first self sufficient steps, I’m willing to walk you step by step threw the process. I’ve written several how-to DIY guides available at  www agua-luna com on the subject. I also offer online and on-site workshops, seminars and internships to help others help the environment.

  4. Hide in my basement curled up in the fetal position until the sky falls. Give me a break...This one must have been educated in our fine public schools.

  5. Good luck with that!  You're not going to stop it.  And you probably won't live to see it, either.  Just pass on the tips to your grandkids and their kids, they're the ones that will have to be dealing with it.

  6. Even if the population is larger than it was, its still going down [polar bears] and they could become extinct.

Does anyone else see anything wrong with this statement besides me? Are we supposed to take people like this seriously. I will say something similiar here goes.

Global warming may not be real but it could be happening in the future.

Polar Bears are doing just fine. Their numbers have increased not decreased. Another prediction gone wrong by enviromentalist what a shock!

We have as much control of the climate as we do with directing comets and making stars glow in the sky. You are more than welcome to take your fellow cultists and move to the desert, live in thatch huts and eat cacti all you want.

  7. go vegetarian/vegan!  the meat industry contributes to AT LEAST 18% of the world's global warming.  statistics show that it is worse to eat meat in one year than it is to drive a gas guzzling car.  with so many fake-meat products out there today, being a vegetarian is easier (and healthier) than ever.

even simple things like recycling, using filtered water from your home (as opposed to drinking bottle water), paying bills online (as opposed to receiving paper statements via snail mail), and riding a bike or walking make a HUGE difference on your carbon footprint.  by switching to vegetarianism alone, you reduce your carbon footprint by roughly 1.5 tons each year!

many online companies have made strides towards becoming more environmentally aware.  for example:

    http://shefinds.com/blog/index.php/weblo...

also, TIME magazine came out with a list last year of 50 ways to help stop/minimize global warming called "The Global Warming Survival Guide" (see link below in sources)

and as always, spread the word!

    rock on & good luck!

  8. i'm not going to smoke and i'm not going to litter.

what are you going to do to stop global warming.

  9. I'm going to start car-pooling

  10. I'll look up info on it and see what I can do. But we'll never get rid of global warming.

  11. Well I have been doing bottle drives and during spring break im going to go around parks and look for litter and clean it up. And So far I bought a hybrid car so im having that till they make a better idea.

  12. As of right now the polar bear are doing fine, there are several populations of polar bears, some of the populations are declining, several are increasing, and some we just don’t have enough data to say what happening to them.

I sure you read or heard the news reports and Al Gore state POLAR BEARS ARE DROWNING, DROWING I SAY AND IT’S ALL YOUR FAULT!!!!!  And that bears have been drowning in significant numbers, this was based on one report that four polar bears drowned from a storm. Of course now the global warming crowd is claiming the storm was the result of global warming, so it really was global warming that killed the bears. So tell me why did we have huge storms before global warming?

Or maybe you say the photo of the mother bear and baby bear standing on an ice flow. That photo of the polar bears was taken in summer.

I hate to say this but I’ve been through, global cooling, population bomb, the famine scare, DDT, Silent spring, Etc. every 5 to 10 years they come up with something new scare you and get you to support this cause or that cause just send money and we can stop X. Give this a few years and let the science catch up, and I’m willing to bet it suddenly won’t be a problem, but by then they’ll have something new to scare you with. The science by the way is starting to show that CO2 has little or no effect on the climate.

  13. So you listen to the news when they say, "Oh, the poor, cute little polar bears will die in the open water because the ice is melting."

but you ignore the news when it is reported that this winter, there is record freezing going on in the arctic.

Which "truth" do you hold to?  The one with pretty pictures and 20 second sound bites?  Or the one that says, "think about what you are told and realize that a change in a few years does not mean a global "forever" change?

I can guess without you even answering:  You go with the pretty pictures so you don't have to think?

  14. Biologists estimate polar bears evolved from grizzly bears in only 200,000 years.  Technically, nature could replace them relatively quickly. They are a subspecies of bear, its not like all bears would go extinct.  But this isn't even the case anyways, their population is increasing.

Find me a source that shows a count of how many dead polar bears are found, or how many are estimated to have died already.

  15. GW is very complex. We must have renewable energy and get off imported oil. The USA needs a plan to reduce GW by 5% per year for the next 10 years while we build out these renewable energy sources which can then cut an additional 20%. I am working on many projects and a charity. I hope you want more information and are willing to do the studding.

    Have fun

  16. well my family is already cintributing as it is, we dont own any SUV's or JEEPs, or HUMMERS, we own 2 volvos and a BMW, which means we dont put as much polutiion into the air as much as ppl who own trucks bcause trucks need more gas

  17. I don't think that it is possible for the world to be flooded, as in the Bible says that God will not destroy the world by flooding again, but I do believe that we should go with green energy and water conservation. Also, everyone should change their lightbulbs to CLF's, as they are only a little more expenseve and save $ in the long run. The only down side to CLF's is that if you keep them on for only short amount of time (under 10 minuites) you shorten the life of the lightbulb. And I think that more people should get geothremal heating and cooling, and A solar pannel for electricity. The huge pannel may seem expensive, but it also will save $ in the long run. It also may seem ugly, but I can tell that soon they will become even more popular, and the apperance won't matter.

Also, it has been proven that global warming and cooling are natural, and have occoured through out history. Such as the Ice Age.

  18. im going to take a drive with my truck, buy chicken, go home go to the barbecue (gas ones not eletric) and barbecue my chicken. Then im going to make beans with my stove using natural gas heating it up then eat the beans. Then I'm going to f**t alot.

(A 9 year long f**t is 1 nuclear bomb and we get those farts in one day since theres nearly 7 billion people lviing on earth)

    global warming is a myth

wiseone (the dude below me) im a grade ahead of you, 9th grade and i believe im smarter than you, global warming is a natural cycle and we are not contributing to it. did you know mars is warming faster than earth? looks like little green men is creating mars warming over there...

enjoy life and dont let anyone control it
