Don't send anything except money orders or letters written on normal stationary.  No glitter, glue, tape, stickers, or anything else on the letters, no sexual content, criminal content, etc.

Hello Possum. This is a standard question. Inmates can receive two types of packages. The first is called a food box ( self explanatory) and the second is called a sundry box. Sundry items are personal items (not edible) such as clothing, radios, tv's and personal effects that inmates are allowed to have while incarcerated.

You can call the institution and ask for the mailroom. They can send you a list of approved items to shop from. There are further restrictions such as total weight of the package and the actual dimensions of the package coming in. (It will go through an xray machine, so it it is too large, it will be returned to you at your expense since it wont fit through the machine).

The list is highly specific as to size, brand and type of packaging ( no glass items would be allowed), etc. This is all spelled out in detail in the cover letter.

Food and Sundry boxes are time specific, meaning you can only send so many boxes per year. Again, this is spelled out.

One other way to get this list is to ask the inmate to get it from his case manager in his unit. He can mail it to you.

Please remember that every single item is going to be inspected for contraband (which also means it MUST be on the approved list. You cannot substitute any brands for a listed item). If any item is considered contraband, the inmate will be given the opportunity to either ship it back to you at his expense, donate it to charity or have it destroyed.

depends on the prison.  some have certain colors that you can NOT send them ..some have certain types of clothing you can NOT send them.

Most of the time books have to be send right from the store, cause you can put things inside the covers., that the guards can't find.  

some will not let you send cash, you have to send them a money order and they put it in an account in the jail.  

there is the usual do NOT send booze or drugs or girls mags. things like that..
