  1. I own 6 twh, and I love the glide.  Smooth ride, decent speed, the ones I have are pretty easy to get along with and relatively "low maintenance".  I suppose there are cons.  If you want to compete in western pleasure events, or for that matter, any event that the norm is your basic walk, trot, canter, you're going to have a hard time being competitive, no matter how good your gaited horse is.  Another "con" I suppose, if you want to call it that, is that sometimes it can be difficult riding gaited with a group of nongaited riders.  It seems like the natural ground covering gait of most gaited horses makes a lot of the non gaited horses really have to work hard to keep up.  Another thing I hear, and it could be true, is that riding gaited requires less of a seat to some extent.  No posting the trot, etc, and makes for a sloppy rider.  I don't know that I agree with that, but I rode nongaited first, learned how to post a trot, sit a western jog, etc before I transitioned to my smoothies.  I know for me, it's spoiled me.  I can ride a nongaited, but I prefer not to.  OTOH, I have a friend who bought a gaited horse and didn't like it.  Went back to her arabs, and couldn't be happier.

  2. Love them , they are a blast

  3. where do gaited horses race are they harness or are you in the wrong area maybe you should be in the pets area under horses. i am not trying to be mean but this is the horse racing section.

  4. I have ridden Arabs,Q horses,Appys, and others and I have ridden the gaited Icelandic horses. I love Icelandics and the gait is part of the reason why.I enjoy tolting ( a running walk )and I also love the Icelandic canter. I don't have any cons with the gaited horses, although there must be some.
