  1. First, find the downhill direction and run

Always run swirving left and right because bear's eyes are mostly in the front of their faces.

  2. I would just run like h**l. But dont go up a tree it will still get u.

  3. always exchange insurance with the bear and copy his license plate number

  4. I have on a couple occasions started pelting the bear with stones, fast as I could throw them.

The bears were yearling black bears, easy to frighten away, chase them up a tree.

One does not try that with any mature bear, and I doubt it would do to try it on a grizzly. For  those play dead until it goes away.

If it is a polar bear, you had best be prepared to fight with a spear or gun. They tend to eat you if they can.

  5. Call your insurance agent to make claim, and hope he doesn't get up holding a grudge. :)

  6. ok, first thing you do is not move a muscle! and if it doesnt go away after that DONT RUN!! i know it sounds dangerous, but if it attacks you, fight it back!! grab a huge stick or something and go at it!! SCREAM AND SHOUT FOR HELP!!!

  7. First of all, most bears will avoid you and go in the opposite direction.  If they seem interested in you, make a lot of noise and make yourself look big.  If you have a jacket, you can raise it above your head and spread it so it makes you look bigger then you are.  Never turn your back or run.  Also, do not leave small children or pets alone.  Pick them up if possible.

  8. They say you should just back away from it.

If it comes after you they tell you to do two different things depending on the type of bear.

If it is a grizzly they say lay down and it will likely just knock you around a bit and leave you alone.

    .

If it is a black bear they say fight like h**l because it intends to eat you.

  9. Bears normally avoid people, however they will come into camp grounds to scavenge for food, and they normally only attack if they feel threatened.

the best thing to do is to back away, and go around them, if you do see them it is because they have found of food and your advancing on they threatens their food, and they will protect that.

Also Bears cannot run downhill as fast as they can uphill or on level ground.

if you are being threatened by a bear and backing up is not working, stand upright, raise your hands over your head to make yourself seem larger, and yell as loud as you can.

Bears are know for their poor eye sight, and will follow smell or sound easier than by sight.

  10. I think it depends on the type of bear. Black bear, brown bear, grizzly bear, etc.

Stay calm. If you see a bear and it hasn't seen you, calmly leave the area! As you move away, talk aloud to let the bear discover your presence.

    1. Stop. Back away slowly while facing the bear. Avoid direct eye contact, as bears may perceive this as a threat. DO NOT  HAVE DIRECT EYE CONTACT WITH ANY TYPE OF BEAR! Give the bear plenty of room to escape. Wild bears rarely attack people unless they feel threatened or provoked.

    2. If on a trail, step off the trail on the downhill side and slowly leave the area. Don't run or make any sudden movements. Running is likely to prompt the bear to give chase and you can't outrun a bear.

    3. Coming between a female and her cubs can be dangerous. The bear will do anything to protect her cubs if she thinks they are in danger.  If a cub is nearby, try to move away from it. Be alert &other cubs may be in the area.

    4. Speak softly. This may reassure the bear that no harm is meant to it. Try not to show fear and do not start to cry and do not scream!

    5. Bears use all their senses to try to identify what you are. Their eyesight is good and their sense of smell is acute. If a bear stands upright or moves closer, it may be trying to detect smells in the air. This isn't a sign of aggression. Once it identifies you, it may leave the area or try to intimidate you by charging to within a few feet before it withdraws.

    6. Fight back if a black bear attacks you. Bears have been driven away when people have fought back with sticks, rocks, binoculars and even their bare hands!

A little boy was killed in my town from a black bear attack so stay safe and always know what to do if you do run into a bear!

  11. I always thought you were suppose to drop to the ground and lay still
