So I'm having a birthday party and everyone's like arriving at different times. I don't know what to do with the first guest if they get to my house at like.. 1:00 and then wait for an hour for the next person to come. A little help please?

  1. Ok, there is a fundamental problem here if the invitation says 1:00 and most guests don't come until 2 or 3 or when they feel like it.  That's just plain rude!  You might want to word your invites to say that the party will be between 1 and 3 or tell chronic latecomers that the party is starting an hour earlier than scheduled.  That being fixed, invite your initial guest to help you in the kitchen if you have some things to do, get them something to drink, encourage them to have a nibble of whatever is being served, and have a seat with them for a nice chat.  Don't feel embarrassed or uncomfortable, your late arriving guests can do that all by themselves!

  2. Not polite to arrive an hour or so early. Just sit them down and say..."my you're early, I have to go upstairs and dress!".

  3. you play with them

  4. Offer them a drink and if you are still doing things in the kitchen then you invite them to come along with you to chit chat. If you are still running around doing other stuff and have no time for chit chat then still offer them a drink and show them to where the appetizers are and excuse yourself politely for just a moment.

  5. Have some little chore for them to do like, arrange some flowers or help you set out some candles, fold napkins, etc...

  6. Let them help you prepare.  Set out something they can snack on.  Ask them if they would like something to drink.  Talk until the rest of the guests arrive.  Talk about your kids, hobbies, etc.  Before long, everyone else will be there and you will wonder what you were ever worried about...

  7. you tie them up and put them in the closet until everyone else arrives. DUH

p.s. make sure to ducktape their mouth so they dont scream.

  8. you talk, get a drink, nibble on food.

a good guest would offer to help with last details to be done

and most guests wouldn't show up an hour before the party starts, most ppl are on time for functions

  9. chat, socialise...its not a complicated process.
