  3. You don't need a letter of intent in California, DO NOT INFORM YOUR SCHOOL DISTRICT OR CURRENT SCHOOL OF YOUR INTENT TO HOMESCHOOL.  It's none of their business, though many school busybodies think it is.  After filing a PSA, you can just request records to be sent to the new address for the school you'll be in (which you will know after you've filled out your PSA).

Just file a PSA (Private School Affidavit).  Here is what you do:

    1) Find a local county contact:

    http://www.hsc.org/countycontacts.html

    2) ASk them what to do.  Basically, all you do is download a very short form and fill it out & mail it (Private School Affidavit - PSA).   They'll help you with where to go and if you get stuck on the form's questions.

    3) You start the moment you make a decision to home school.  You become *official* the moment the PSA leaves your hands in the mail.  The HSC contacts will guide you through the minimal amount of paperwork you need to keep in case Truancy knocks at your door.

    4) Ask the HSC contact about the various methods, philosophy's and styles of home schooling and learning.  There's a lot of them.  If you're nearing college age and plan to attend college, find out what kinds of records and prep is necessary.  If you have a college in mind that you would like to attend, contact them and ask what requirements are necessary to attend, then form your homeschool experience around those requirements.  If it's a junior college, you can usually attend while still in high school, after age 13.
