How often do you say to yourself, "that's just the way it is", "sh*t happens" yadayada....?

I saw a story on GMA a few weeks ago about an elderly fella crossing a busy street. He was struck by a car and though there were many witnesses, he stayed there for quite awhile before someone finally dialed 911. No one tried to help him, no one tried to stop traffic for him, well that's that way it is and sh*t happens people.

  1. I'm never like "that's the way it is".  I try to accept the things I can't change but my biggest problem is not understanding so many things.

Anyways, I would have helped that guy and it pisses me off that no one did.

  2. When I read/ hear about terrible stuff i often feel choked, but i do not let it affect me for long - if you felt all the suffering that is in the world you would kill yourself.

I do not understand callousness and cruelty and indifference, but I do understand the need to ignore it.

  3. Terrible as it may sound...most things.  If it all bugged me I'd sleep very poorly.

  4. That is true what you're saying. Nobody cares anymore. How could they possible just leave him there. They must have no morals

  5. Sh*t happens is my motto and will go on my tombstone when I die. I am not a pessimistic person, but we don't live in a utopia. Bad things will and do happen.

  6. Actualy 4 people dialed 911 right away, it was the Police cheif commenting on 1:30 seconds of video without knowing the whole story that has lead to the misunderstanding that no one called 911

However it seems as though no one was willing to go out into the street to see if he was ok, which is a bit cowardly, I probably would have went out to see if he was ok, I can't garentee i would have been anything but afraid though

  7. I still can't let go of the story of the man in California who beat his toddler son to death a few days ago. People tried to intervene, but they couldn't stop him. It makes me want to vomit every time I think about it.

The cops shot and killed the man, but not soon enough to save the boy.

And there's a story in Australia today about a couple who let their 18 month old twins, a boy and a girl, starve to death. I'm not for capital punishment, but I think it would be great if a steamroller accidentally slowly rolled over that couple, starting with the feet.

So, in answer to your question...very little.

  8. Certainly not that. For me that is totally unacceptable. Sadly, it isn't surprising. There was a story here in Montreal awhile back where a man was shot at a night club. The patrons all ran out on to the street but NO ONE dialed 911. The man eventually bled to death on the sidewalk.

This story is even more disgusting. He was lying in the road and motorists could clearly see him as they were avoiding him but nobody stopped. Again, not surprising as no one seems to care.

As I said it's unacceptable but at the same time what can we do? **** does happen but this a life we are talking about. I think we live in a me me attitude and who cares about others kind of world. It's pathetic.

  9. i care very much for those around me, and cannot imagine walking away from such a situation.

can't explain the apparent apathy of others.

  10. The world is so twisted that I have become somewhat "desensitized" about things that happen. Basically, if it doesn't change my life, I don't worry about it.

So in your example of an old Man getting run over... I would think "That sucks" and move on to my next thought in seconds.

What can I do? Nothing... so why stress?

  11. Our society has developed a warped sense of interacting.

Those that try to help are told by too many people to mind their own business.

  12. Well, I just completed a round of CPR/first aid training at work (American Heart Association version), and one of the key points to it was making sure you are not putting yourself in danger in order to administer first aid.   So anyone with similar training would have delayed getting involved in an accident in heavy traffic until police arrived to direct traffic.

The other element is the the man was elderly.... does he have a living will?  Would he want to be helped -- and how much help would he want?   Would he sue a private citizen for administering unwanted aid?

Just trying to offer a different perspective.
