I've had established credit for a good number of years now, and over the years I've learned things I wish I had known in the beginning. To make this a question, and to be able to share it with this new younger credit generation, what are your positive credit (credit cards, savings, etc.) tips that you have found that have worked for you to keep debt down, and keep a good credit score ?? I'll name a couple and everyone else please add on so we can help new ones to this crazy credit card game.

  1. Always pay more than the minimum payment.

  2. This seems like a bit of an oxymoron, I know, but the best credit solution is to not use credit at all. If you ARE going to use credit, say credit cards, loans, etc. Pay more than the minimum payment and pay them on time. Better, with credit cards, never put more on the card than you can pay off every month, and stick to that. What gets people into trouble is the "I want it now" syndrome. They load up credit cards to the limit, borrow money from the bank, etc. and put themselves into a position of owing more every month than they can pay. Discipline and common sense is the best approach to credit.

    Hope this helped

  3. Never use credit unless it is absolutely positively necessary.

  4. Buy only what you need not what you want. If you use a credit card pay the whole balance on or the due date. Preferably use cash only.
