With the upcoming US Open beginning next week, I was thinking back at some of my more favorite matches I saw at the US Open in recent years. I will never forget the 2001 Quarterfinal between Andre Agassi and Pete Sampras where neither was able to break each other's serve. Gosh I still wish that match had gone to a fifth set. LOL

Then there is that 2004 Ladies Semifinal between Justine Henin and Jennifer Capriati. That one was a nail bitter all the way to the very end. LOL

And the 1995 Ladies Final between Monica Seles and Steffi Graf was the last great ladies final the Open has had in recent years.

James Blake versus Andre Agassi in their 2005 Quarterfinal match and later Andre versus Roger Federer in the 2005 Men's final were two really great matches that year.

Those are some of my favorites. What are yours?

Also if anyone was alive (LOL) when Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Tracey Austin, Jimmy Conners, John McEnroe, Ivan Lendl and some of more former greats of the game were still playing, I would be very grateful if you guys can write about the great matches that occurred during that era.

  1. I saw a re-run of the 1995 final between Sampras and Agassi. I'd give it 5 stars! That match was incredible.

Then the match Agassi played against Marcos Baghdatis in 2006 - true classic. I can NEVER forget his choking and Baghdatis' cramps. What a thriller!

I'm looking foward to more great matches this year.

  2. i dont know much about tennis and i dont really want to read all u wrote but my favorite US open match is defiantly Roderick and fedderer

  3. roddick vs fedderer

  4. FEDDERER!

  5. Sharapova VS Henin 2006 Final

  6. I liked the Golovin-Sharapova match in '06, and the Sharapova-Henin final in 06,too. I really liked the Jankovic-Venus quarterfinal last year, but the best I would say I liked was the Henin-Venus match last year, amazing points! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ym-AlrJ2u...

just look at that amazing point at 2:13! :D

  7. Sampras's vs Agassi in final.

    Federer vs. Agassi final

Federer vs. Roddick last year QF.

    Federer vs. Roddick final 2006

    Henin vs. Kuznetsova final 07

    Sharapova vs. Henin 06

too many others to name but those are ones I really enjoyed.

  8. I really miss the color that McInroe and Connors displayed. While they were not well accepted at the time, they, along with players who "broke' the dress code, etc. took tennis out of the dark ages and far from the stuffy, unwritten rules of the old British game.

I admire Billie Jean King not only for her superb abilities, but also for

her courage in doing the things she did that made women's tennis important.

I guess the player that I most admired, even as a young girl, was Maureen Connolly ("Little MO") who was near my age.
