  1. "Albertine" only really flowers once in the year - but what a display!  I have a pergola covered in inter-twined honeysuckle and Albertine.

As you say, an old rose - my father had a whole trellis back in the early 50's.

A couple of the repeat flowering ones are nice - Golden Showers, Dance du feu and Schoolgirl.

  2. I was surprised some years ago by "America", which had large deep salmon full-sized flowers that scrambled up a trellis next to the front porch.... they were most pleasantly redolent of fresh apples.

  3. The beautiful fragrant red Don Juan.

  4. Can I choose more than one?!?! he he

    I like...

'Madame Alfred Carriere' - because she's a monster and goes and goes and goes!

'Climbing Mrs. Herbert Stevens' - because of such a pretty shaped flower

'Royal Sunset' - because of the color and scent

There are just tooooo many to choose from! :)

  5. Albertine is great, but for my money it's Rambling Rector.

Golden Showers is pretty neat too.

  6. Yes - I have an Albertine and it is beautiful this year.  I planted a New Dawn on my rose arch in winter and it is about 1.5 m tall now with lovely pale pink flowers.  Rambling Rector is a beauty too but it comes out in one flush and is gone before you know it.

  7. I adore Albertine! Mine is currently in full bloom, and the scent is amazing. I also have a wonderful miniature climber called Warm Welcome, which grows well in semi shade and it's almost luminous orange flowers really stand out.

  8. We had one by our front porch when I was a kid  . . . beautiful salmon colored . . .I think the name was  "Sunset" I can still remember the smell . . .ahhhhhh !

  9. Golden Showers is wonderful, as is Climbing Peace. I like Joseph's Coat, too.

  10. Hands down my favorite is the Zephirine Drouhin rose. It is actually a rose that does well in partial sun, a rarity! Plus it has very few thorns a plus when clipping flowers for a vase. It is a tough rose and does well in a variety of soils. Check it out:
