I am buying a used car and I am wondering what are the legal rights you have when purchasing the car. Can I return it if I find something wrong? If yes, how long do I have?

  1. Used cars are sold "as-is" without warranty or guarantees, and there are no laws that allow you to return a used car, even if it falls apart on your way home.

This is why is it so important to find out about the car and it's problems BEFORE the sale. Test drive the car, get a mechanic to look it over, get a CarFax report, and ask the seller detailed questions about the car's condition, although this is not always reliable.

  2. no you cant , most states do give you the right to take it to a mechanic and have it checked over at your expense

  3. When buying a used car, you have very few rights. You have the right to examine and test the vehicle before you buy it to determine its condition and suitability. You have no right to return the vehicle, unless the the dealer offers a return privilege in writing. If you buy the vehicle and it falls apart as you're driving it home from the dealer, too bad. Buyer assumes the risk when it comes to used vehicles.

  4. You have NO right in any state to return a car.  You are going backwards.  Have the car checked out before you buy it.

  5. No you can't take it back if you find something wrong. That is why you need to have the car checked at a shop BEFORE buying it. You can also obtain a vehicle history report whiuch will show some other pertinent data.
