1.  Rats!  Can't help it, I love rats.  My cat recently brought me a juvenile rat unharmed, so I'm trying to tame it.  I don't recommend this to people who are unwilling to get bitten by rodent teeth, though.  Stick with the pet store rats.

2.  Mockingbirds!  They make such a fantastic string of songs, each sung 4 times, often while fluttering up into the air and back down.  And they eat bugs; I watch one stalking across the ground, partly opening one wing in hopes of flushing out a bug...

3.  Opossums.  They keep the yard free of snails, but are rarely seen.  Once in a rare while my dog has frightened one into a fainting fit; and the closer you get, the deader it looks.  Touch it, and it pulls back its mouth in the grin associated with strychnine poisoning.  The farther you get, the more signs of life it shows, until it feels safe enough to get up and walk away.
