-cd of static (gets baby to sleep, he likes the noise -sounds like the womb)

    Babies panadol

Gripe water for colic (Use it here in Australia it is great to get wind up,not sure what it is called elsewhere)

Coloxyl drops are used here in Australia for when baby is constapated(not sure what it is called elsewhere)

Dont forget a camera to take a snap shot of babies special moments

A good reliable washing machine to wash all of those babies clothes

  3. Sleep sacks!!!! Those are my top ten by themselves! When you are exhausted at 3am not having to fuss with bottoms, or snaps is priceless! Make sure you have sleepsacks!

  4. diapers, wipes, recieving blankets, burp clothes, someone that comes over to help with cleaning/cooking etc... a good friend to talk to .....and a few dates with your hubby/significant other..

    hope this helps.

  5. Other than the obvious diapers and wipes, my top ten lifesavers:

    1) baby swing

    2) tons of receiving blankets (my son spits up alot)

    3) alot of onsies

    4) boppy / breastfeeding pillow

    5) nursing pads (lots of them - at least until your milk is regulated as you will leak alot)

    6) Nursing pj's -- very convienent at night

    7) Someone to come and help out with cooking/cleaning, and watching the baby so you can shower, get some extra sleep

    8) a couple of newborn outfits (not many though as they grow so quickly)

    9) carseat/stroller travel system -- makes it much easier on outings to just attach the carseat to the stroller without waking up the baby

    10) a sling or baby carrier (I like the Maya ring sling and the baby bjorn baby carrier) -- these are really useful when your baby doesn't want to be put down and you have things that need to be done!

EDIT : oh a good rocking chair / lazyboy is very nice too!

  6. Boppy nursing pillow (they are freaking awesome)

    Bouncer

Baby gowns-so easy to pull up and change

    wipes

    diapers

    pacifier

    bassinett

    nursing pads!!!

    nursing bra

    button up shirts

  7. Bottle drying rack

    Diaper bag

    boucer seat w/ vibrations

a good soother for crib time

    a swing

    Gas drops

onesies, and if it's a winter baby, the terry type pjs to go over them

lots of t shirts for mom/burp clothes

A good changing station(we used the one on our pack n play), and the pads from the hospital for under mom as she sleeps make a great liner for it, lol.

    Good luck!

  8. ** DIAPERS

    ** WIPES

** FOOD ( for you and baby )

    ** BLANKETS

** ONEZIES ( i prefer "baby gowns" bcuz it is soooo much easier to change babies diaper, and get baby in/out of them)

    ** SOCKS

** BURP TOWELS ( no explanation for that! )

** POWDER ( helps prevent any rash that may occur under all that "baby fat" that keeps rubbing together...ex: neck, thighs etc)

    ** NITE LITE

** ROCKING CHAIR ( really helps with putting baby to sleep, gives you and baby more bonding time, helps with feeding ... breastfeeding or bottle, and helps with your posture which later on in life wont be so great. haha. )

    GOOD LUCK

  9. 1 onesies

2 many, many diapers and many, many wipes

3 changing table and pad (used for changing, dressing, and bathing (sponge baths)

4 diaper rash cream (in case..u can get plain zinc oxide per my ped and its cheaper)

5 if bottlefeeding--lots and lots of formula and bottles, so u don't have to wash constantly

6 dr brown's formula mixer pitcher (again if you are bottle feeding--easy, no bubbles, foam, etc. and u can make enough to last you for 24 hours at one time and it has this thing that mixes it well, so you have no clumps, very easy, and much better than shaking a bottle and having foam AND clumps!)

7 thermometer (never know when you will need it, i am a RN  and i don't trust ear thermometers, they are not as accurate as one would have you believe) and baby meds (same, never know if u will need it, they are too young for baby motrin as a newborn, but some generic tylenol drops and some generic mylicon drops may save the day!!) and a nasal aspirator if they don't give u one at the hosp; my gal has spitup through her nose more than once!!

8 car seat!!! and snuzzler to keep head supported, one that came with seat was a joke...and extra base for dad's car..(and i mean infant seat, bc it is very , very convenient, and my baby loved sleeping in hers!!)

9 swaddlemes by kiddopotamus (babies r us has them)

10 a good bottle brush ( i like the munchkin ones that are all bristles and no sponge)

11 soothie passy(only kind she will take and at least one extra)

12 diaper bag--baby might have a checkup soon after leaving hosp, mine did...

13 boppy pillow and some cotton covers, softer ones didn't fit right...good for breast or bottle feeding, saves your back and arms

14 cloth diapers for burp clothes

15 blankets, bibs, and hand mittens, socks

16 didn't find this right off, but a mesh cover for infant carrier..meant for mosquitos and inclement weather, etc. but excellent for keeping strangers from touching your baby, and they WILL..i had one pick up my baby's passy, touching the part that she sucks and putting it back in her mouth as i put a bag in the car; had my back turned for a split second and had already told her that baby was only fussing bc she wanted to go home..thought she would get the hint...NOPE

    17 baby monitor

18 baby gate if u have cats esp to keep them out of baby's room

    19 diaper genie 2

20 some frag free, dye free baby wash and laundry detergent, you don't need to waste  your money on dreft! and u will do lots and lots of baby laundry!

btw, sorry it was more than ten, but that was the best i could narrow it down...LOL

there was so much we used and are still using and she's 2 mos old, i could probably list forty that i wouldn't want to be without

oh, and whether u breastfeed or not, you will probably need some breast pads to keep u from leaking on your clothes at first....hope this helped...if you want more, lol, email me and i will give you what else i LOVE....good luck with your little one

ps i dont know why everyone keeps saying it, but you dont NEED to put POWDER on a baby....

    1. Number one thing for me was a baby wrap - see the ultimate baby wrap at Target. May baby lived in that thing the first few months.

Then the obvious, clothes, daipers, wipes and such.

  12. • most obvious is the diapers & wipes - you can NEVER have enough of these...(holy cow, no one told me babies go thru so many each day, lol!)

    • lots and lots of onesies...they are versatile - they can be paired with pants, left alone, worn under a whole 'nother outfit. no matter what you do, you go thru a bunch of these each day.

    • sleep sacks - helps keep them warm since you can't use blankets with a newborn.

    • boudreaux's butt paste - seriously, it's the best diaper rash ointment out there, short of using straight zinc oxide. (most wal-mart's stock it.)

    • burt's bees buttermilk lotion - smells great & does wonders for soothing dry baby skin. far better than the usual aveeno or johnson's.

    • huggies disposable washclothes...wet babies are like greased pigs, and who has six pair of hands to hold them, get a washcloth, squirt some soap on it & attempt to wash their squirming upset bodies? these make the job much easier, & go even further if you cut them in half.

    • boppy pillow - if you're nursing it's a must-have. even if not, it helps save your arms when feeding. that 8-lb baby will feel like 40-lbs after ten minutes.

    • fisher price vibrating bassinet...it was small & low to the ground, so was a nice thing to have in the living room rather than set up a big portable playpen. and the vibrating motor was the only thing that helped my daughter sleep more than an hour at a stretch in the beginning. it goes thru batteries like crazy, but was well worth the trouble.

    • out of laziness came my favourite thing: a basket i put together of useful necessities that i could just grab & take with me throughout the house...it was a nice square woven basket about 4" deep with a nice tall handle on top. (think of a plain easter basket, lol.) in it went a couple spare outfits, several diapers, diaper cream, tub of wipes, burp cloths, extra pacifiers, the nose-sucky thing, thermometer, gas drops, a book & bottle of water (for me when nursing)...this basket went with me from room to room when i was with the baby. with a tall handle, it was easy to scoop it up wherever i went. it certainly saved me the trouble of having to rush to another room when needing something. i replenished it every night before bed. it was a lifesaver to have it all in one small convenient location rather then search all over for the various things needed thru-out the day, and i never had to raid the diaper bag (which was usually in another room anyway). it is something i now give to new mothers at baby showers, & everyone has loved it just as well.

    • an attitude adjustment...no one cares if your house is a mess when they visit you, or how long it's been since your last shower. they just want to wish the baby well, so don't try to be super mom and have everything perfect all the time. just enjoy the baby and the time you have when they're little. it goes fast. in a year, you're favourite memories will be how special your time with them was, not how your house was spotless & your laundry was always done.

what you should ask about next are the things that people THOUGHT they'd need, only to  realize it was a waste to have, lol...like a wipe warmer (baby seldom notices the difference), a changing table (you plop them down on the nearest surface anyway), and dreft detergent (most babies do just fine with something like All Free & Clear at half the cost).

3)A family member, friend who anyone who had experience with child care on speed dial.

5)His bouncy chair was a godsend for the first few months.

7)A wonderfully hubby who will take my son off my hands for at least a little while, and let me sleep in from time to time.

    8)coupons

    9)loads of washcloths.
