Question:

What are your opinions on Pit Bulls, etc?

I would like to know your opinions of the dogs that are in danger of being banned by BSL.

My sister has a Pit Bull/American Bulldog cross, and she is one of the best dogs that I have ever seen. She's sweet to people, a little wary of new dogs, but gets used to them quickly. My husband and I have an Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua cross, and we were worried that Baylee wouldn't like him. After the initial introduction, she started to play with him. She seems to keep in mind that he is only 11 lbs and that she needs to be careful. If anything, he's mean to her! He bites on her face, runs around, steals toys from her, plays tug-o-war, etc. The only time she has hurt him is when she gets a little excited and body slams him. Someone always monitors them, so Baylee gets reprimanded for squishing Baci, and then they all go back to playing.

I do not like when people will automatically condemn a dog just because there have been other people that do not correctly train the animal. My dad was one of those. At first he did not like Baylee because of her breed(s), but now he seems to like her a lot. He laughs at her silly antics and quirks in her personality. She's the only dog I know that will pout if you fuss at her for doing something wrong.

  1. Pit bulls won a temperament test. Scientists took a test between German Shepherds, Beagles, Pit Bulls, and Border Collies. The Pits won. I love them them their great dogs. If you watched The Michel Vick Case and his 66 Pits all found great homes and only 1 extremly aggressive one had to get put down. I think there one of the best breeds out there.

And any dog can be dangerous, when I was 10 I was bit in the face by a bird dog. He was a Britney/Cocker. He grew up in a great family with no trace of violence. He knew who I was and he just snapped. I also had a German Sherperd who snapped on my Pom one day for no reason, he grabed his neck and shook him. And it gets me mad when all people can talk about is banning them and how they are ALL agressive, and how they should be all put down. No one thought that in earlier days when the were considered the " Best Family Pet". And studys also show that the Rumor of all the pits being agressive in a myth. When the poor dogs are forced too fight, they think they are doing the right thing. There owners are telling them good boy, good. So there ganna think, Wow im being a good boy and finally getting attention, maybe I should keep doing this. All the pits wanna do it please there owners.

And your  getting spoon-fed when someone says there all mean. My pomerainian is meaner then half of them.

  2. sorry it has been proved they ar dangerous. always keep ur gard up these dogs riped a 2 yr  girl apart i england last year the dog was a family pet in my eyes these dogs should not b breed any more and i defend dogs to the last  as i am a dog lover sorry

  3. Well, i think people who want pitbulls put down or no longer bred are just 'Health & Safety' people who have never had dog - come to that - a pet them selves.

You can't put a dog down.. JUST LIKE THAT.

Its not the dogs, but the owners. How they train, breed & of course how much attention they give them. This rele does annoy how they can influence so many people.

  4. Pit Bulls are definitely trained to be "vicious". So, it all depends on how knowledgable people are of that breed, and how they train their pitts to be. There are many ignorant people who have no idea how to take control of a very dominant (bully) breed like that, and that is where we hear tons of stories of pit bulls attacks.

Pit Bulls need alot of exercise and mental stimulation, if they don't have that every day (which most dogs that attack don't have that) then they take their negative energy out on people and other animals. Watch Cesar Milan on National Geographic Channel, and he has several pitts that have plenty of excercise each day with him being the pack leader. When dogs realize that we aren't acting like their pack leader, then they take over the position and thats where we hear of all the attacks.

Also, I have worked at a large pet hotel/doggie daycare for the past 2 years. Pit Bulls can't have any dog interaction while in the pet hotel because some are very dominering in their play which can lead very quickly to nasty fights. I've seen many pitts come in, and only 1 was a pit mix that was aggressive towards us but never bit anyone. From my experience with them besides that one, they have been very sweet and energetic dogs

  5. LOL Judgerz what about them is little?

Anyway, I love pit bulls. (Pitties, as I call them).  I think that they are wonderful dogs. I think that they are dominant sometimes, but when paired with a diligent, responsible, and well informed owner, they can be the sweetest and greatest pups ever.

I Want to own one when I am older.

  6. I love pits. Great dogs. Just like Judgerz said though, her beagle could tear one apart, so, since my dog can tear a beagle apart, I guess he could tear up a pit bull.

  7. Uh, just the same as every other dog breed! They're Purr - fect!

  8. I love pit bulls they are the funniest dog , i had 4 of them and they were the best but i would supervise play time not because it is a pitbull just because u never know who might start the trouble so it s best to watch them play and  besides it is fun to watch dogs play

  9. pitbulls used to be the overwhelming choice of people wanting a faithful, well mannered dog good with kids (like the dog in  Lil Rascals!) but somewhere things warped so they became known as vicious bred killers.  Thats a load of balarkey as pitbulls are in fact one of the best dogs around kids and people.  They do tend to have strong prey drive (like to chase small animals) and with other dogs can be difficult but sounds like yours is very well behaved.   Mind you if they are trained to fight or attack they can be super bad as pitties do not give up!  Some people say their jaws lock but thats falsehood,.... their just very very determined dogs.

I've owned several and have to say I wouldnt hesitate to get another

  10. I have two wonderful pitbulls that are great with kids and other dogs. I think pit bulls are always taken for granted. People think they look tough with them and then people breed them to fight. That's how they got their bad rep. There are so many rumors about them like locking jaws, which aren't true. I just think that pit bulls are great dogs.

  11. I was wary of Pitts until my husband BEGGED for one. He'd had one as a boy and desperately wanted another. I disagreed at first because of all the bad things people say about them, but finally gave in. Now, I love our boy. He's a Pit/husky mix, and is the biggest sweetheart I've ever seen. The chihuahua next door barked at him, and he peed on himself! He's 90lbs! The chihuahua is 5lbs!

I think Pit bulls are great dogs and that the people fighting them need to have more done to them than minimal jail time and fines. The only thing I do have to say is that I wouldn't recommend them to people with really small kids because my boy, Tobi, does like to jump and because of his size has busted my lip twice. He doesn't mean to, though.

  12. the laws about the breed are stupid if they put down the people found fighting them instead of the dogs i bet it would stop stupid people from doing it i know it sounds in humane but its better than what they are doing to these poor dogs

  13. All dogs can be aggressive, however I don't think the reason that the dogs are being banned is because of the dog itself.  It has more to do with the people that are buying the dogs.  Pit bulls are the most abused of all breeds because there are so many people that want them for "guard dogs" and train them to attack people and other animals so the pit bull doesn't get the loving attention that they need.  I don't think that any dog should be put in the hands of someone that is going to abuse them so if they have to ban breeding the dogs to keep them from suffering in the hands of cruel individuals I guess I would have to back up the ban.  It is to bad that some people are mean to their pit because most of the pits are very gentle.

  14. I think they're wonderful (personal opinion), but can be lethally dangerous in the wrong hands.

As far as Judgerz thinking her beagle could tear a pitbull to shreds... Nothing against Judgerz, but it's thoughts like THAT that do nothing to help the breed.  In a real dog fight, a beagle would have no chance against a power packed, muscle bound pitbull.  Pitbulls fight to kill, not fight to defend or wound.  It's a breed trait, that is WELL KNOWN to breed enthusiasts, and WELL CONTROLLED by those who understand what they're doing.

All this mumbo jumbo about pits being the SWEETEST DOG (which they CAN be) just promotes novice dog owners acquiring them, which is DANGEROUS.  I have to WORK HARD to keep my pitbulls from fighting with dogs on walks, they have to be controlled, redirected, and briskly walked past the other dogs.  Pitbulls could easily incite a dog fight riot, and finish it off!

These dogs are NOT for everyone, and should only be owned and handled by those who KNOW WHAT THEY'RE DOING.  Bad breeding, and even worse so, lack of knowledge about how to control these dogs makes for a dangerous combo.

Until people understand these dogs need special attention, the breed has no future!!!!!!!!!

  15. I think that they are all fine dogs.  I know from experience that it is just the owner.  When I was a baby, my family had a Yellow Lab mix with a Coyote.  My mom and dad had no experience with training and so he was a handful.  He barked at and bit everyone but me.  Few years later, we get a great dane, huge, and he is just so gentle.  Now, we live with an American Staffordshire Terrier.  Last year, we owned an Australian Cattle Dog/Australian Shepherd Mix and I took him off of the streets.  His owner was arrested and he was dying.  He was an absolute delight (not that the others weren't).  I have *yet* to be bit by a dog.  I've been scratched and bitten by a kitten, numerous times.  I still love them.

  16. I own and love this breed very much. They are very misunderstood and very much abused.

Pitt's do make wonderful family pets and are very loyal dogs. but they need to be raised and socialized correctly. And are not for the inexperienced dog owner.

As far as banning them I feel that the jack *sses that abuse this breed should be the ones to be put to sleep or banned from ever owning a pet not just a dog but any animal.

And for every one who is for banning Pitt's or any other breed of dog for that matter for what ever reason. What are you going to do when They decided to ban the breed or breeds that you love? will it be fair and justifiable than?

  17. I love them

they are great dogs, but definatley misunderstood

  18. I think they are gorgeous dogs that get a bad rap.  They are out of my experience level at this point, but all the bully breeds I have met have been super sweet and friendly.

ADD: "Pit Bulls are definitely trained to be "vicious". " - - No, the ones that are trained to be vicious are "definitely trained to be vicious".  The ones that are trained to be friendly and obedient (the majority, IMO) turn out that way.  I think most owners ensure there bully breeds are well socialized and well trained.

  19. I know a HUGE pit who's best friend is a tiny chihuahua.

It all depends on the dog.I cannot vouch for all pits in the world but I have never came across a mean pit.

  21. I love Pit Bulls. They are sweet and funny little dogs. Hopefully in the future I'll rescue a few.

I bet my beagle would tear a Pit Bull to shreds...

  22. My opinion? Greatest, most loving family dog you could ever imagine. Yes, better than Labradors. In a temperament test, Pit Bulls had the highest score of any dog breed, being the most calmest, gentle and loving.

It's just sick how people use them for their cruel 'sport'. Why oh why, don't we euthanize the people who commit the crime, instead of the dog, which is only doing what it knows: obeying it's master.

This is a sad world, and unfortunately, there will always be people out there who think Pit Bulls are killers, and want them dead.

There are also extremely uneducated people who get Pits, not knowing a thing about them or how to train them. A lot of owners just let their Pits run wild.

Pit Bulls need only the BEST of owners. Nothing less will do. Having a good, responsible owner brings out the best in a Pit Bull. We need good owners to show everyone that, in the right hands, Pit Bulls are very obedient, friendly dogs.

I wish people could just see what a truely magnificent breed they are.

IMO, the best dog breed to walk the earth.

  23. They're wonderful, loyal dogs.  The only way pit bulls become vicious is if they are abused.
