Also, as I'm starting the course, when will I know what books to buy?

  1. These are questions you could ask the course tutor - it's a bit late to be worrying about this if you've agreed to do the course, you might as well wait till you get to Lancaster and just take it as it comes.  In my experience, the course leader will send out a book list before you start, or might give you the book list for a course, at the first lecture. Students who did the course last year may well want to sell the books they used so look on departmental noticeboards to see what's is being advertised.

Lancaster has a good reputation. I'd expect the standards to be high and the work load to be demanding. If you've got a "A" level in English (Literature) you should easily be capable of essay writing, and if you've done courses in Sociology, Psychology and/or Social History etc these would be good background and preparation.

I expect you'll do fine. Enjoy yourself.
