  1. I recently had my Miata worked on.  It was the first time since 1996 that it had been in the shop for something other than routine maintenance or something preventative.

I mentioned this to the guys working there and they said "that's a Japanese car thing.  If it weren't for European cars, we'd be out of business."

  2. I can't really discuss the BMW but I own a Miata and I personally wouldn't use it as a daily driver, although many people do.

It's a great fun car, has a wonderful sports car feel, gets outstanding gas mileage, is extremely reliable, only two seats, convertible only, is relatively expensive to insure, not especially comfortable on long drives, and is not very versatile (small trunk, almost no strorage space).

Every car has it's place, and the Miata has it's place, but in my opinion not as an only car that is used as a daily driver.

  3. The BMW is a high maintenance vehicle.

The Miata is a very cramped pseudo-sports car.

Both have high costs associated with owning/operating.

    I've had both.

Neither, in my opinion, is suitable for a daily driver.

A Hyundai Sonota or Elantra would be a much better choice.
