  1. I wouldn't think that you would have many rights to maternity care or leave if you are on a short term work visa. Also, your child, should it be born in Australia, will only be eligible to citizenship in your own country, unless the father was an Australian citizen.

I lived and worked in Australia for 2 years and my daughter was born in Brisbane. I thought that she would have dual citizenship, but she was only able to be a citizen by descent to my home country. My partner and I were eligible for the baby bonus and he was able to take leave after she was born, but I think that was due to a social security agreement between Australia and New Zealand.

  2. you still have to leave when your visa expire's,and you will have to pay all medical expences yourself

the health care agreement between Australia and the UK will not cover maternity

  3. I would'nt think so, holiday visa's restrict you from working more than 3 months in any one job dont they? The whole point of this is that you DO NOT have these rights such as holiday pay, maternity pay, sick leave or compassionate leave. Check your contract but it's probably best to go home where you have rights.

  4. Do you mean as in maternity leave? That would depend on your workplace agreement that you have with your employer.

As for healthcare I am unsure you should call medicare or family assistance.

  5. The answer may depend on what county you are coming from.

Quote from NSW Health dept regarding Visitors from countries that have signed Reciprocal Health Care Agreements :

"Maternity Services for Short Stay Visitor (ie: under 9 months)

    Routine antenatal care is covered

    Confinements are not covered unless

Emergencies or complications arise (eg: premature births)

Special cases (eg: where a patient’s visit to Australia is primarily for her, or her partner’s work, and the patient has no choice other than to have the baby in Australia)"

Maternity Services for Long Stay Visitor (ie: over 9 months)

Confinements and antenatal care are covered, including routine ultrasound Tests such as chromosome sampling where medically indicated (eg: where the mother is in an at risk age group or there is a family history of deformities)
