Let's say they make a time machine, and I go back in time to kill my father, do I die too?

  1. It depends on how far back you go.  If you kill him before your conception, you are a goner.  But anytime after that, you could kill him and still live, unless you died of some other cause.


  2. You would not be able to.

    For some, this grandfather paradox, would not allow you to go back in time and wipe out your parent, because if you did so, you would not exist and if you did not exist you couldn't travel back in time.

    Some don't think you can travel to a time before you existed and you can't travel back on a timeline that is not self-consistent (Novikov self-consistency principle). Some think there are parallel universes/alternate timelines and you would not exist in one of those, while the other would be unaltered and you would still exist.

    Basically, whatever you tried to do to kill your father and thus negate your future existence wouldn't work.

    It is impossible.

  3. Did you kill your father before you were born? If so, You never were.

  4. You would create another dimension where your father died before you were conceived, therefore you wouldn't exist in the new dimension, but you would still exist in your own...
