A cat rental service? Is it wrong? I'm surprised to see that one's going up in my area and can't help but feel that it's wrong. Partly because I think it would be hard for the cat to go through so many different owners because it will miss his/her previous one.

  1. that sounds cruel. i've read that cats don't attach to people as much as a place, but i think the writers nuts.  my cats have always known the sound of my car and my foot fall. when i'm gone for an extended time, i have a sitter stay with her, and when i return, she's in the lap glad to see me. me. so i do agree with you. it is terribly wrong.

  2. Sounds good for the people who like cats, and the cats who like people and being fed, and perhaps chasing rodents.

For the cats, it's business as usual.  They don't need to bond to a particular "owner."

The only drawback would be if a cat were to suffer abuse of some kind.

  3. What is the purpose of that service? In New York they have lizard rentals just to eat cockroaches. Is that a similar thing for rodents?

  4. I don't really know what they are renting the cats for, but in general I would say it's unethical. Would we rent out humans? It's speciesism plain and simple. Just because something is not human doesn't mean it's interests (in this case the trauma of going from home to home) should not be taken into consideration. That's all I can say without knowing more specifics.

  5. Wow, I've never heard of a cat rental service. I don't believe that's ethical at all. It perpetuates objectifying animals.

Now if that idea is some how combined with animal shelters to give these cats another chance at a home or buys them time  from death row so to speak, then maybe there can be a positive out come from this idea.
