Lets's see, sign with Detroit for 1 year - $7 million or what the Penguins offered 7 years - $7 million. Yes, I know that Detriot won the cup but the Penguins are by all means not a c**p team.

  1. ^ Nice

Dude.... get over it. The PENS and BERTUZZI were made for each other!

  2. Maybe Hossa doesn't share the same plans on going forward as the Pens.  Maybe Hossa thinks he has a better shot winning the Cup in Detroit next year.  Maybe Hossa didn't want to be locked up long-term at this point in his career.  Welcome to Hockeytown, Marian.

  3. Like most players Hossa wants to be part of a Stanley cup winner and apparently Hossa figures he has a better shot at it with Detroit than Pittsburgh. No one faulted Ray Bourque when he went to Colorado and Pittsburgh still has a good young team with more cap space without hossa, win win for everybody.

  4. over rated and over paid.....

  5. hahahahaha stop crying little pens baby fan

  6. LMAO!  The Pens fell a part and are now a c**p team except for

a few individuals.  So he came to DETROIT.

    GO WINGS!!!

  7. Why do people think Hossa owes something to Pittsburgh?  You rented him at the trade deadline to try and buy a Stanley Cup.  It nearly worked, but he wants his Stanley Cup and he got the money and the opportunity with Detroit.  I hate the Whings, but I don't fault Hossa for going there.

He'll be shopping for a new team next summer because the Salary Cap will come calling on Detroit, and maybe you'll get a 2nd chance of luring him back to Pitts.

  8. First of all stop being so bitter, it could have been worse. So you lost Hossa, it's not the end of the world. Was he your best player? No. You still have Crosby, Malkin, Fluery, Staal, Gonchar and many other talented players. And I believe Hossa said it wasn't about the money but the fact that he wanted to win a Stanley Cup. Pittsburgh had an amazing season last year but who knows if they will be able to duplicate that or go further with some of their players departing and the core of Detroit still intact.

  9. You must be a Pens fan. Everyone in the hockey world knew that Hossa was a "rental" and that in all likelyhood he was going elsewhere after the season was over. Don't blame Hossa because the Pens management sold their future young players for a run at the Cup...and don't say Hossa didn't perform in the drive for the Cup..because he did! Hossa is going to the Wings for a year for a crack at the Stanley Cup and then will be free to seek the highest bid in the following year.

  10. Maybe Hossa hated Pittsburgh? . Maybe he he hated the coach that didn't have a true game plan to play the Wings in the finals. Maybe because he is on the inside , he saw things that you as a fan doesn't and knew he had to leave. Maybe he likes the wings jerseys better. Can I give you some more reason to add to your theories? You still have a decent team. One player does not a team make already

  11. Awww....do you want your lolly? Sounds like it's time for your nap.

  12. That has to tell you aboot the players and the coaches. For him to get up and leave after a successful season to play and start anew in Detroit for one.Maybe he didn't like being paired up with Crosby?I couldn't imagine Jari Kurri doing that to 99.(Not comparing Crosby to 99 or Hossa to Kurri just an example).

  13. As a UFA, he's free to do what he wants...when you give up a boatload of prospects in a situation like this, you do so knowing full well this could happen.

Since none of us actually spoke with Hossa, who knows what he was thinking or what his rationale was; at the end of the day, he's a free agent and therefore, free to do what he wants.

We don't know what conversation he had with Ken Holland or even the coach.

Let's not use the canard of loyalty; he was brought in as a rental, so not much loyalty built up.  We don't know how he got on with everyone in the room, or what his family thought of Pittsburgh, or a whole host of things.  Pittsburgh is his 3rd team in 3 years...not exactly the stuff of family and blind loyalty.

Even Sundin...while I wish he would have waved his no-trade clause last season and gotten moved, he chose not to, and that's his right.  Now he can do whatever he wants; it's his contractual right.  So be it.

  14. He's a sell-out.

He's an attention-w***e.  Being in a "small" hockey market like Pit can't compare to being in "Hockeytown".

And I like the way he slammed every single franchise in the NHL except for Detroit by saying that he wanted the best chance to win the cup.  No team was "good enough" for him except Detroit.  What a prima-donna.

But there is good news.  I don't think Hossa can stand up to the more physical play of the Western Conference.  The injury bug will catch him through some thundering hit.  Count on it.

  15. I was shocked to hear this when I saw the video on it this morning.  I think it's pretty crazy how Hossa was one of the top players for the Pens and start anew with Detroit in the upcoming season.  Even though the Pens didn't win the Cup this season, they could have in a couple of years with the kind of players that Hossa has to work with.  Instead, he wanted to actually "win" the Cup "now" with Detroit.  Either way, I'm interested and I'll be following Hossa in the 2008-2009 season with Detroit for sure.
