Question:

What are your thoughts on Vizio TV's??

I am considering spending a considerable amount of money on either a panasonic, magnavox or maybe a vizio (and save money) I am wondering if there are any horror stories I should hear about these TVs. I have looked for reviews on the model numbers and I cannot find a place to let me compare them side by side. I guess it would help if 1 store carried all three bit unfortunately they don't.

the panasonic is the 42 "Viera"

the Vizio is the 42 (VP 423)

and the Magnovox is the 42MF437B_37

Also I am wondering about plasma or LCD.

  1. The Vizio is just as good as a Panasonic or Sony.  Just cheaper cause they only sell in the US and don't have high overhead costs.

  2. LCD is much better as far as quality and getting your money's worth. Plasma is too expensive for something that doesn't do much more then LCD does.  I see the Vizios in Costco and they seem to have nice picture quality, and I have read reviews and Consumer Reports rate them pretty high.  I don't think Magnavox is that great of brand.

  3. Vizio is the new & upcoming Sony..I have 3 myself...good buy if I must say so myself :)

  4. It's your money and your headache, but the Panasonic you mention is so good compared to the others, in performance and reliability, that it shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath. Magnavox/Philips (same mfg.) are at the bottom of the list of name brands - way too many consumer complaints, but at least you have a reasonable chance to have them repaired when they break. Vizio is third tier, disposable, junk TV. Stay away, far away! Read this - http://www.hdguru.com/your-new-disposabl...  Anyone who recommends Vizio simply doesn't know what he/she is talking about!

In 42" plasma, Panasonic Viera is so superior that you shouldn't even look at another brand. In 40"-42" LCD, the top dog is Sony Bravia, for both performance and reliability. A little bit less expensive, but good quality is the Toshiba Regza followed, perhaps, by Sharp Aquos and Samsung. I simply wouldn't take the chance on any other brand.

  5. the vizio is a good set. sony is better in my opinion, but for the money the vizio is a good bargain with a great picture!

  6. I have an LCD Vizio (26")

I love it! Everyone i know loves it too, my uncle just bought one(its big, not sure exactly what size, and the picture is great.

My computer is connected to it too, so i can download movies, and watch them(no dvds)  =]

If you want to see what other people think, and what professionals think, you can check all three TVs out on CNet.com

  7. vizios are overall great tv's but they have a lot of buzzing sound. so if you are watching a show and it suddenly gets quiet, u'll hear buzzing.

  8. I have heard from more then one person that Pioneer Flat Panels are the best quality. My Uncle also bought a Toshiba, and I have also looked at Sony, and Samsung.

If you are going to spend the money, I would prefere you to stay away from the store brands, like Insignia because they always shut down after some time.

Plasma or LCD all depends if you have a lot of lighting in your room. If your room is dark, then a Plasma would look sweet. Otherwise you might stick to LCD, because Plasma TV's have a big glare.

If you are going to spend your money on something nice, especially electronics, QUALITY definetely makes a difference in wear and tear, and longevity of the product.

HA HA Don't waste your time with Westinghouse. Sorry, don't buy house brands, they are the worst. You'll be sorry.

  9. I've got one and sometimes the I have to unplug it to reset it because both the remote and the buttons on the side of the television won't work until I do.

Maybe I just got a lemon, but I would watch out for that.

  10. I bought my Vizio based on really great online reviews and comparisons. The picture is really good and the connections are easy but I was more impressed with their service support, more than anything. I bought mine from a sears store and after setting it up, it began to acting crazy. I called the service number, and within in a couple days a technician was at my door and after trying to replace a part he had them send me a brand new set. He was a third party tech and praise the Vizio because of their support.

  11. give you my quick tip list for plasma vs lcd.

LCD pro. Crisper picture, If you play video games

cons. Slower response time, not as good for movie watchers or sports events

Plasma. Watch sports and fast paced movies its the way to go. Brighter colors

Play video games not so hot because it gets something called burning of the image where when the unit is off it looks like there smoke built into the screen.

Lifespan which is agrueable by model does not last as long as an lcd.

If I didn't play video games I say get a plama but I personally do so it doesn't make sense to me.

The differnce between those 3 tv's will be minimal. It depnds which one fits your room style the best. You and I can look at a tv and see things we like and don't like and they can be complete opposites. Don't ask people which one is better. I say if you want a nice tv Samsung or Sony. If not everything else is so close to the same. So many companies make parts for many tv companies.

  12. my first flat panel is 42 inch plasma it is a panasonic and it is located in a real estate office it is one for about 12 hours a day and has done that for about 5 years now when they said they would die in about 3 years with normal use, so that tv is a champ and i love it. and i just bought a sony LCD and that tv is great it does so much better when sun light shines on it the LCD absorb some of the light without effecting the picture so if your tv is going to get sunlight on it when and where you are going to watch it i would definitely get an LCD and i would stick to sony or panasonic. hope that helps

  13. I would stay away from Vizio if I were you.  Almost every week when I buy groceries at Costco Wholesale, I usually see a different person in the exchange/return line with a Vizio flat plasma TV.  Funny that Costco also sells Panasonic, Mag and other brands but I hardly see any of those being returned.

    Stay away from Vizio.
