What do you think about bands who talk about politics(in their music and lyrics)? Does it turn you off and do you stop listening to the band? Or do you not care?

  1. It doesn't bother me at all and in a lot of instances, if done well, I quite like it.  I really don't see how that is any different than the average joe who blogs about politics and has  millions of people read it.  Everyone is entitled to their opinion and to give it and on the flip side, everyone is entitled to ignore it or not listen to it if it isn't to their taste. There are a number of subjects that everyone has an opinion on and politics just happens to be one of them.

  2. turns off, since they are musicians not politicians.

they know how to write lyrics and play instruments not run a country

  3. I don't care.

  4. I don't care.

Art has always provided commentary on contemporary society.

  5. I agree with Hoser, if it's a good, intelligent band known for their political commentary (like Rage Against The Machine & the like) or even just a band that normally isn't politically messaged but is a good alternative, "artsy" rock band in general, then that's fine, I'll give it a listen. But yeah, I don't want to hear Avril Lavigne or Rihanna or Lil' Wayne or Kid Rock telling people how the political system works or how the world 'really is'. If you haven't even graduated from high school, then save your opinions please...

  6. I just don't listen.

  7. It depends on the type of artist.  If you're someone like Bob Dylan, U2 or even Metallica with a history of political and social statements then that's fine.  I can't stand it when some bubble gum pop star like Madonna tries to get preachy in an attempt to add validity to their mindless "art."

  8. I don't mind if they make one or two song but if they're pretty radical about politics in that it features alot in their lyrics then I probably won't listen, even if it matches my political views. Example being Rage Against The Machine. They are anarchists. I don't like that much so I don't listen to them.

I loooove Linkin Park. Their first two albums had nothing to do with politics and I enjoyed the albums. I never thought that they'd go political with their music but on their latest album they made a song called Hands Held High, and it got a bit political (about the war on terror) and I didn't like really so I just don't listen to that song.

Another example is how Rammstein made a song called Zerstören (destroy) about George W. Bush and how he is like a child. I didn't like that either. I'm not a major Bush supporter but I hate it when bands I like go all left wing because I look up to them.
