What are your thoughts on last night's Elite XC fights on national TV?

I thought they were awful. what a way to bring MMA to the "general public"... the bout where Smith got poked in the eye should never have been stopped and was shaping up to be the best bout of the night. Kimbo's fight sucked and he really would have gotten beaten if they didn't stop that one either. ...poor showing by Elite XC (but we already knew they suck).

I just thought it was not the right way to bring MMA to the masses. thoughts?

  1. I can't believe I even watched the show, it was a total waste of my time. Although I do love watching Gina Carano, Kimbo on the other hand I saw lost twice that night and the BS part about the night is that they didn't even wait for Thompson to hit the ground, he was dazed, but standing. Even in boxing they don't stop the fight when the guys on the ropes, they wait till he's on the ground. Man, I'm pissed, I'll only watch Elite XC for Gina Carano though.

  2. It was a joke, just like Kimbos skills.

That is why Elite is and always will be the minor leagues of MMA

I could name off 12 or more heavyweight from the UFC that would destroy Kimbo, and any student of MMA would say the same.

  3. Elite XC are not the only ones to blame.  yes they picked a lot of crappy fighters to be one the show, which really dragged down the quality, and i think we can all agree on that.

We also have to blame CBS.  WOW! what a bullsh!t production that was!  Whack cheerleaders, wwe style enterences, and why the h**l was each fighter introduced twice?? once before the ring entrance, and once again in the ring. it made no sense!!  And how did the show run that long, with so much downtime between fights??

And lets not forget The NJ State Athletic Commission, who I'm sure was on super high alert, which would account for all of the quick stoppages.  I bet all the refs and doctors were given specific instructions to stop fights too early rather than too late, even though i think that happens most of the time anyways.  I can't really remember an mma fight that went on longer than it should have.

So pretty much everyone involved from top to bottom S**t the bed on that one last night...except for Gina Carano...but even she showed up at the weigh-ins 4.5lbs over...but her i can forgive!

  4. I liked the old UFC when they didn't stop the fights until someone got knocked out or tapped out!  Its c**p that they stop these fights before these guys are ready because they want to be in there.  I can understand it if its a safety issue which means to me the guy isn't thinking straight but if he is still lucid and want to go back in with one eye or a broken arm, who am I to stop him.  Royce Gracie would have beat Matt Hughes! Eventually...

  5. When they introduced the first fighter by having Busta rhymes sing a song?!?!?! come on... and the WWE girls that had dancing between bouts? come on, is this wwe or mma? I feel they made a complete mockery of the sport. The stoppage for the eye gouge was bull$hit, that was the fight of the night. Gina was on her way down except for those lucky shots near the end. Kimbo shoulda been called out when he layed on the mat for 2 minutes and got beat on by the "colossus" LOL. But really he wasn't defending himself at all. Any ufc ref woulda called that over at that point, but seeing as how he is  elite xc's only draw i'm sure the ref was prepped prior to the match to let it go if it got to that point. What a joke. Any heavy weight the ufc has signed would rip him up. What was Bas thinking?

  6. I think Kimbo is so over-rated, his grappling skills were awful! He should just do boxing instead of MMA.

    Johnny

  7. I did not like it at all, and for those noticing the professional wrestling similarities, I saw those too and I am a wrestling fan and have been one since about 1981.  All I have to say is, that MMA fans better be careful about supporting the Elite XC or they may end up with something that is a mockery of the sport they love that will forever change it for the worse, just like Don King did to pro Boxing and Just like Vince McMahon did to professional wrestling.  I personally don't think combat sports are suited to Network television, for obvious reasons like time constraints and gore.  It was pretty obvious to me, that both of those factors probably played roles in the early stoppage of those fights.  Elite XC just does not seem credible to me, and Gary Shaw seems like a more crooked promoter than Dana White.  One of the few EXC fighters I like is Robbie Lawler, he is definitely a rising star. It is a shame, but he has probably sank his career with Elite XC.  Why would Dana White take him back in the UFC at this point?

  8. I only watched the last 2 fights and i was truely disappointed in everything.. the commentating!!! I dont know why the Dr. would call that a NC? when clearly Smith was able to continue. Kimbo who i still can be a force in MMA regardless of his lack of skills did not put n a good fight and should have not have WON!!! In any MMA fight is you are being hit with several unanswered or protected hit the ref is to stop it, but that didnt happened last night when the brit had Slice pinned down and was hitting him with mediocre elbows (which i feel was soft and weak as h**l) but the ref like an minute & 30 seconds go by and didnt do anything. when in the 3rd round kimbo hit thompson with 4 good shots the ref jumped in and called it a tko. I like that ref but i feel if persusassed with $$$.

    Other poor show

  9. didnt see it,,,, wont help give them ratings myself and ill see the chickfight elswhere

  10. i loved the Elite xc dancers... Sarcasm...

i would love to see slice vs. rampage jackson..

  11. If there was a way that I could agree with you more, I don't know what  it would be.  Fight stoppages happened way too soon. The fight between Kaitlyn Young and Gina Carano was stopped too soon, because the cut Young sustained was under the eye.  It would not be draining to the eye where it would cause vision problems.  The Robbie Lawler fight was just a straight up joke.  They didn't even give Smith a chance to blink his vision back before they called the fight.

Kimbo looked overly unimpressive in his fight, and at one point in the fight it looked like he tapped.  He showed everyone with any BJJ skills that he is a chump.

Most annoying thing to me was the professional wrestling entrances and dancers.  By the time they got to a fight, I was so bored with all the hoopla that I wanted to turn the channel.

Elite is about to go belly up, because real MMA fans are going to be turned off by last nights show.  I could care less about their promotions from now on.  A bunch of chumps hitting each other will not bring the masses to the sport, and will most likely drive away the true fans!
