I'm just curious. I'm also scared about all of this too. I have been out of work and looking for a job for awhile now and luckily my husband has a decent job but we have been using some of our savings each month just to get by. I am trying to keep optimistic about all this but I'm really freaked out. Anybody else out there feeling this way and how to cope?

  1. believe it or not the answer is very simple.  the politicians will do anything to stay in office.  they will pass laws that they know will lead to ruin, just to buy votes.  take this mortgage rescue for example.  this market was way over heated.  companies played fast and loose with the rules and made bad loans.  now they should have to pay for their mistakes right?  wrong, that would cause economic pain to the voters.  pain=no vote.  no votes, no cushy political job.  it's the way of things.

  2. The economy is very unstable. I only work and most of what I make goes into the bank and I make sure that a portion goes to savings. I've even been working extra hours just to get overtime to put into savings. We've cut our frivolous spending, cut back on driving anywhere except work, and try to make our pocket money last til next payday. Save up now!

  3. I live on 607.00 per month and manage to live rather well.  Now, granted, the closet I've been to a steak in three years is looking at a picture of a cow but I do eat healthy. It is NOT below me to go foraging through the trash for things I need or things to sell at yard sales.  Look at it this way, it is an honest living and I'm not out dealing drugs, which is always a plus. Last year, I was eating my meals at the soup kitchen and getting free food every chance I got.

Now i am somewhat comfortable and am growing my own garden for to have food.

What you might consider doing is joining the Yahoo group Free-cycle.  In it, you can ask for things you need or give away things that you do not need to others.  The basic idea is to recycle and stop working and good things from the landfill.  That is only a few things that I do.

If you would life more info on living frugally (I can stretch a dollar til it screams) e me.

  4. I'm freaked out as well. I too just lost my job right before my student loans are about to come due. I've had to postpone them as I look, and so far I've only had one interview that I think I'm going to get turned down for. I don't know what to do and my savings is dwindling down. You're not alone.

  5. I have about the same problem. However I was the bread winner and its not easy. I have spent 3 months looking for a job with no luck. when you have 10's of thousands of people all looking for work, well you know the odds. I posted something earlier, I'll past it again just for you to read. as to why we are having this problem is the US right now. But, the best way to cop is remember your doing all you can.

Well, start with the fact that in the last 2 years 40,000 companies have left the US for other countries, 500,000 jobs have been lost in the last 6 months. Our Government stated to the American people that the NAFTA laws would creat jobs in the US, was at best a lie. Instead what happen is companies found they could move there operation to Mexicao, Japan China, Inda, ect. and recup there moving expence within two years, do to lower labor cost. Mexico, the only have to pay a full time employee $4.50 per day.

Companies like GM, Fords, and other larger compaies alike forgot that the American people made them as large as they are (were). To go further, one can use common sense and think about if I move from the US and cut labor, then WHO is going to buy my product. When you go from the largest employer to a mid-size do to down sizing then what do you think is going to happen in the US.

The money is going to foreign countries, and forign businesses, so it's plane just leaving the US. Lack of planing on Business, and the Government as a hole is at fault. We send 700 Billion just to foreign oil companies a year, and we give the richest companies in the US tax breaks. 18 Billion in subsidiaries ever year to BIG oil companies, and they showed the larget profit in the US of any company.

We have sold off, traded or given away more of the US in the last 6 years then in any other 25 years before.

Do you know that the US is contracting our navy ships to foreign companies, we buy our military guns from Briton, and bullets from another county. Our air plane parts for the F16 come from Japan. We even buy our AMERICAN FLAGS from Japan and China, that fly over the White house.

I could go on and on. However, the problem is our Government has SOLD us out, and we are now fighting to just live day to day. Unless your one of the rich or in office.

If we went back to the way thinks were done in the 60's with our Government and stop with ALL this foreign Immigration and put out illegals, and stop NAFTA and charge tax to companies that left the US to bring there items back to sell we would recover within 2 years and we again would be the strongest nation, but for now we the UNITED STATES and BUDWISER are up for sale, or have been sold.

SO ITS OUR FAULT BECAUSE WE KEEP LETTING OUR LEADERS s***w US. Got any LUBE.

On top of that we owe China about 1 Trillion dollars and Japan 500 Billion WE borrowed to help fund the war and bail out big companies. WE wouldn't have had to do this if our GOVERNMENT had a head on the neck.

  6. I don't caere because I pay

".08 per gallon you can too"

and you can if you search YouTube for that

    No Bull

  7. I think everyone is freaked out.  It really sucks, because I also am looking for a job.

  8. if we can't tackle  the economies biggest problem, it's to low of income, it will drive us all homeless, everybody tryng to sell and nobodies buying.

  9. People we have experienced something worse than our economic crysis. Its called THE GREAT DEPRESSION.

We may be unstable but we can recover from this and it will happen. Recessions happen all the time we just never paid attention to it because we were all once kids and never really cared. Now that you are grown up into young adults you pay more attention to the news because we are working and its going to affect us. People never really care about something until it effects them.

  10. Its tuff. Americans are very adaptive to social and financial upheaval. Fear is what drives people to look for solutions. Dont give up hope. I think back to my younger days and the struggles my wife and I went thru to provide what was needed for our families at times it seemed that we werent going to make it somehow we did. It wont be like this forever and it will get better. Count your blessings move on and tommorow will be a better day.

  11. Wow.  I just asked this question, too.  I think we have to really dig in.  I don't think it is going to change real soon.  Everything is in an upheavel.  Try not to get too freaked out.  Sit down and go over your budget and see if there is anywhere you can cut your costs.  Using your savings is a real bummer.  And, best of luck in finding a job...I am pulling for you.
