What are your thoughts on the name Irina for a girl?

I think the name choice is pretty, not the pronunciation you're suggesting though.

When I first read it, i was thinking more phonetically, like ee-ree-na. Which i personally like.

Hey!! That's my name!! That spelling and everything! Yeah, eye-ree-na!

yeah, everyone says they've never heard of it and it's really pretty. I like that it means peace and I'm Russian so I have a name that reflects me.

I'm the only one in my grade (probably school, northern NJ) who has that particular name. I'm sure there's an Irene but no Irina's!

I like it and I wouldn't change it for anything!

P.S. The only thing I don't like is that some people mispronounce and say 'ee-ree-na' (the russian way of saying it) and others just leave off the a at the end and then it's Irene. I'm very picky about that because it's not really the same name. I guess it's no big deal correcting someone every now and then so I wouldn't discourage anyone from using that name!

As a general rule, I think it's best to use more eccentric favorites as middle names. It's more kind to the child.

Marie Irina sounds nice.
