  1. Baby is a pretty mellow 8 month old now, but he was a VERY colicky newborn. Some of our tricks were:

vacuuming while he was in a front carrier

Shushing, rocking and pacifier (at the same time)

Singing "Come Sail Away" by the Styx (don't ask me why this worked)

The other thing that worked was doing the baby dance. I would either swaddle baby or put him in a front carrier and dance around the kitchen with him while singing nursery rhymes or made up songs at the top of my lungs. That usually got him laughing or at least settled.

  2. craddle the little darling gently into your bossom whilst your old man rams a tea towel down its throat, there you are ,silence

  3. 'The Happiest Baby on the Block' is a GREAT video that will teach you a couple of great techniques.

  4. i used to sing to my son, rock him in a chair or take him outside. Remember he/she is a baby, they can't talk yet, so just try anything to make them calm. Not everything will work all the time, so try differnent things to see what works best. Like I said try singing, walking, rocking, take them outside if its a nice day, take them for a care ride, its up to you to try and find what works best.

  5. Entertain them. Do something funny that makes them laugh or smile. It is fun for both of you.

  6. Here are top ten reasons why a baby cries, know these and you can calm them better

I calm my baby by just letting her know that I am with her. Also I try to divert them from the thing that is bothering them or making them cry.

  7. One word springs to mind  VALIUM

  8. I used to sing the growning pains theme song. I know it sounds corny, but after several hours of crying you try anything

  9. I softly shhh in his ear and also try holding him and walking around while slightly bouncing him, sometimes they just want some lovin!!

  10. I take him out on our front porch and either walk or sit out there. Something about being outside really calms him down! If it's too hot then I'll just cradle him and walk around the house and that usually puts him to sleep.

  11. Side to side swaying works great.  I used to dance around with my son...it made him laugh, and was good exercise for me!

  12. I put on children's music and dance around with my daughter. I sing to her. I keep saying "It's ok" and "Shhhh". We have a glider in her room so I sit in there to try to calm her down. Just about 25 minutes ago she fell asleep after I was rocking her in the glider. She's teething and having a terrible time with it. I tried the Orajel but I don't think it worked. She didn't want a pacifier (rarely ever does actually) but I took a book out and started reading to her over her cries. Within a minute she settled down and looked at me then eventually fell asleep.

If you want you can buy the gadget that attaches to your crib and vibrates it. I've also heard of these special feet that go on the feet of the crib and then you can sway your crib like a cradle.

  13. I hug my daughter and gently bounce her and whisper sweetly in her ear while we walk around the house.  Once she calms down some I talk to her really cheerfully to try to get her back in a good mood. Sometimes I take her outside to see our dogs and she cheers right up.  If there's anything your baby just loves or gets excited over, try showing them that when they are upset and they might get distracted from crying.

Good luck and congrats on the little one!
