  1. it depends on how good you ride really, they can dive into corners and hold pretty good but they are a lot of fun to slide through corners also and what kind of power are you looking for a drz400 makes around 40hp and a Ducati Hypermotard makes around 100hp, so I guess it depends on how much money you want to spend also.

  2. They are basically dual purpose bikes with street tires, so no on both accounts.

  3. i've heard they're fun to drive at the speed limit.

  4. On a good twisty road a supermoto will outhandle most sportsbikes (obviously there are a number of supermotos and sportsbikes so this can only be a generality), while they have less overall power than a sportsbike they also have less weight and what they do have is centralised, the power delivery is more tuned for a straight line rather than the sportsbike bias for outright power, so the linear power delivery with the reduced weight make carrying speed through corners and accelerating out of them better than some sportsbikes while the wider bars make it easier to throw them about.

Having said that, it is very much down to the road, the riders and the bikes – supermotos are fun and rule in town where the height and width make squeezing between traffic much easier proposition (I know most of the US aren't allowed to do this) however they are not as practical as a sportsbike, for example, for any long distance work the lack of any wind protection and a scalpel-like saddle make it a less than happy experience.

  5. I only have experience with my friends converted xr650r. They do handle well and its easy to ride them fast in tight twisty stuff. Power, not impressed. I do ride a liter bike however. Personally I dont want one, I like the way a pure sportbike feels, and if i do decide to haul ***, I can no problem. Anything above75 and the motard is breathing too hard. Plus those dirt bike seats are even more uncomfortable than a sportbike.
