What are your views of the proposed congestion charge for Manchester?

I understand that it may mean paying extra to run your car but what of the environment and the amount of cars that are on the roads? The money raised could help improved tram links, buses and trains and help the city to be cleaner and greener at the same time.

For that reason I welcome the road congestion charge at peak times. Sorry to disagree with you but I think it is for the best for the city.

It is simply THEFT!

it will ruin the passing trade. I certainly will not be visiting Manchester if they put an entry tax on it.

Even if the whole city will go out and say NO... still, the next day all who went out to protest will start to pay... Reality of the life: when you stand for your rights as a group - that's powerful, but when you put a group of people who stand up for their rights and Don't pay the congestion charge... Suddenly the decision between 5.00 and 50.00 is very powerful indeed (it was a beginning of London charge, now it is 8.00).

Congestion charges suck, full stop. Better get used to it though, 10 years from now virtually every city in the country will have one whether they are congested or not.

Londons' £8 is, I believe, likely to be raised to £12.  The charge has, in fact, reduced congestion a bit. It has also put many people out of work!

However, it seems to me that 'Green' taxes in general are just a con and a money making ploy.  When the government puts an environmental surcharge on an airline flight it does not stop people flying, they reluctantly pay more. What are the charges spent on?  Improving the environment, no they just go into the treasuries coffers - probably to help fund what is one of, if not THE, most abused Benefits systems in the world.
