  1. "Common sense" is actually a meaningless term. If it was "common", everybody would have it. There really isn't any general agreement as to what makes sense.

  2. our society has no common sense.... look at all the activists that wont let us drill for oil in alaska cuz of  the stupid misquitoes but then they complain how gas prices are so high... its rele retarded.....

  3. Yes, indeed the news media and TV programs are off on their tangents, many of which are self defeating in terms of national security and just about every other important social concern.

It is interesting that our modern society is so high-tech that changes in attitudes and opinions, to the extent that common sense is involved, happen relatively quickly.  Moreover, the society is more and more driven by younger people who understand the technology, as compared with past generations where the older, more experienced people were the primary source of social guidance.  We are now less inclined to seek the advice of "elders" and more likely to seek the advice of "youngers" who actually are often able to also command the highest salaries.

The underlying driver for all of this is, unfortunately, capitalism itself.  Making money or profits is the goal of just about everyone and every entity.  TV programs are especially subject to these forces, now that we have hundreds of options on cable and fiber.  News programs are certainly part of it, and they tend to blast away with whatever sad stories they can find, but they also need to hype them up, even at the risk of being fired, like Dan Rather.

So, the real issue, it seems to me, is what can be done about all of this lack of common sense in today's society.  I have to admit that I wrote a book on this topic for those who have the patience and intellect to wade through it.  I offer a 12-element paradigm for dealing with this issue.

Nevertheless, I admire your astute observation since the comprehensive answer requires a couple hundred pages of deep discourse.

  4. common sense has always been in short supply

  5. The shows don't hurt security. We all know that they're there, and a simple handheld GPS unit would allow you to navigate through them. It's only a security problem if we don't properly lockdown the entrances.

As for common sense, what's common is rarely what's sensible. But, then again, I work in a bureacracy. That may color my perceptions.  ;)

  6. I agree

why not  show ALL our secrets on Tv

  7. It is very rare.
