As a university student who is studying psychology I enjoy viewing peoples views on psychology and seeing if misconceptions are rife throughout society about what psychology actually is. So what are your views on psychology; is it a good thing, bad thing, what do you know about psychology, does psychology have an impact on society (is a good impact or not?) etc.

Remember, I'm looking for your opinions (not wikipedia's) so tell me everything you know! =P

  1. I feel psychology can be helpful to some.  I, however, can not seem to find the right psychologist. A lot of stuff they tell me is BS. Most of it common sense. It's pretty irritating when you need help with a problem and they tell you text book stuff that you already know. So frustrating!!

I have a cousin in the family who studied "psychology" and is now a counselor at a school, and this chick is worse off than me. Shes a B****. So I have lost faith in psychology. I hope to find a good psychologist one day. I do need some therapy due to abusive parents, and my ex who is the father of my son. I have issues, but I find myself rolling my eyes with some of the stupid c**p that some people tell me.

  2. What kind of psychology?

  3. I'm a psychotherapist so I view psychology students as academically studying something as though it were a distant object. My training was about my own inner processes, my unconscious and pathology. I actually had therapy before i cold ever practise it. Psychology can fall dangerously into the category of books and intellectual ideology. I'm not saying I'm better than you, but i feel sorry for you trying to experience what you are studying because academia is rated as more important.

  4. the study of the human condition and how people behave in all sorts of situations fascinates me. I believe as much as we all know about psychology it is still in its infancy. Until we can understand exactly how the human brain works we are always going to have psychology.

  5. Psychology is definitely a good thing. I'm majoring in psychology and plan on getting my masters. I do think there needs to be more psychologist willing to work with teens/young adults and needs to be attainable to a larger group of people other than middle class and the like. But that's because I grew up in a poor small town where a lot of the teens need help but can't afford it.
