In the 19th arrondissement in the area around Jaures and all the way up to the Parc Villette.  There are a ton of places.  There's a new place there near the youth hostel (bellushi's).

in the oberkampf area near Fils du Calvary.

near bastille as well (rue lappe) has about 20 places.

Latin Quarter is mostly tourists (very few students actually hang there even though the uni is nearby).

That would be the area that spans the 5th and 6th arrondissements between the blvd St. Germain and the river Seine (north to south) and from roughly the rue du Seine to the rue Dante (east to west).

you can find them in these areas

-around montparnasse station, plenty of bars and some night clubs

-near the Champs Elysées but it's more expensive and maybe more night clubs.

-in the quartier latin, a lot of bars

-near Place clichy and around Montmartre.

I tried to give you some area but you can basicly find these can of bars and night clubs everywhere in Paris.

if youre looking for STUDENT bars (many of the answers above speak abt bars for tourists or wealthy people), and i'll only speak abt STUDENT places :

- rue Mouffetard and rue Descartes (until place de l'Ecole Polytechnique) (5th arrondissement)

- saint-germain quarter, between rue de Bucy and rue des Canettes (6th ardt)

- rue Oberkampf et rue Saint-Maur (11th ardt)

- bastille quarter : rue de Lappe (11th ardt)

- grands boulevards (abt this subway station)

- canal Saint-Martin.

- de place Clichy à place Barbès (but not Montmartre !!), 18th ardt.

just take care of latin quarter, champs-élysées or montmartre : it's full of... tourists ! you'll hardly see a "Parisien" in these area and no student people.
