What areas can you recommend for easy commute to Royal Alexandra Hospital, Edmonton and family-friendly?

My family and I are moving to Edmonton in October and are looking to rent property within easy commute of the Royal Alexandra Hospital. A family friendly area that is not too expensive, within 30-40mins commute by car or transit. Any advice you can offer for arriving in October with regards to weather!!
