What areas in Long Beach is a good neighborhood?

I heard that Long Beach is either a hit or miss. A safe neighborhood in some areas and gang ridden in others. What areas are safer to live and raise a family? Zip codes, streets, etc...any information would be appreciated.

Stay west of Cherry and south of 7th and you should be fine.  Just don't ever go to North Long Beach, that's the bad part.

Belmont Shores is a really nice neighborhood.

belmont shore, naples, belmont heights, the penninsula, park estates, and the area around bixby elementary school are the best neighborhoods

Bluff Park, Bluff Heights and Naples are also nice neighborhoods. Essentially the closer to the water and the farther from downtown you get the better. Virginia Country Club is the exception, it's further inland. That is where the 'Ferris Bueller' house is and where some additional scenes from that movie were filmed.
