What areas in Queens New York aren't the greatest to rent an apartment in?

depends what you are looking for, cheap, nice?

Nice quiet more residential in Queens would be bayside, rego park, forest hills, Astoria, bellerose, Douglaston.  Something more commercial and lively Jackson Heights, Corona, Jamaica, Hollis.

I would say try the North East. East of the Van Wyck Exp, Whitestone, Bayside, Douglaston, Little Neck, Fresh Meadows, Glen Oaks. Those are all pretty mellow.
