  1. 1.  They cloned females

    2.  They left a chemical out of their diet.

  2. There was only one way that they kept them from breeding, they made them all female by regulating the temperature of the eggs during incubation.

They kept them from getting to nearby land by building into their genetic code the inability to produce a certain protein needed for them to live, but that they got from eating the plants, and the meals provided by the staff

  3. They only created females

    No breeding, then

However, to fill in the missing links, they used frog DNA and they have the power to alter their gender

  4. It's a trick question.  They didn't assure the safety of their not breeding at all, that was the whole problem.

They tried by controlling diet and cloning only females, but they thwarted themselves by finishing the incomplete DNA strands with DNA from a breed of frog that has the genetic capacity to change s*x to correct population imbalances.

  5. They made sure they were all female and they performed some kind of radiation treatment aimed at the reproduction areas that were supposed to sterilize the reproductive organs.

As was pointed out by a couple of characters later on in the book, the radiation treatment can be unpredictable because it could be aimed at the wrong part of the anatomy and they could also use an incorrect dosage of radiation. The other issue was with amphibian DNA being used in some of the dinosaurs. The amphibians in question were notorious for changing s*x in a single s*x environment.

**EDIT** As for everyone bringing up the lysine dependancy, that was designed to keep the dinosaurs from surviving if they ever escaped the island. It had nothing to do with preventing breeding.

**EDIT** Open4one did bring up a good point about none of their plans being 100% perfect. It also goes back to what Malcolm mentioned in both the novel and the film. He mentioned that Hammond's team did nothing to properly research their plans, they just "read what others had done and took the next step." If they had read up on the amphibian DNA they used, they most likely would have stumbled upon the research project that Grant had to point out later.
