What aspect in the natal chart would make someone become an alcoholic or abuse of alcohol?

Look for Neptune. There are two sides to Neptune... a very deep spiritual/creative side... but the other side of that is lies, fantasies and drug & alcohol abuse.

Look for the aspects Neptune makes... if it squares or opposes the Sun or the Moon... any hard aspects Neptune makes to personal planets could have a risk of alcohol or drug addiction...

But remember, it is a risk, not a foregone conclusion.

I don't agree with the generalization about Pisces. The same could be generalized about Cancer.

I do agree with aspicco. Look for hard aspects of Neptune to Mercury and/or Moon. Alcohol abuse is more than about a particular sign. House placement can matter too. I think that 12th or 6th houses should be examined, and the rulers thereof.

I think it would be square or opposition of Neptune to Mercury and Moon as the others have stated. But don't forget Jupiter. Jupiter is all about allowing excesses and Neptune tends to alcohol and substance abuse when it comes to excesses. Jupiter square or opposition Neptune is probably going to be a problem with alcohol or substance abuse at some point in a person's life.

I also don't agree with the person who put Pisces in the category of being the alcoholics of the zodiac.

Neptune controls alcohol and drugs and any afflicting aspects to Moon and Neptune especially in Pisces tends to give a strong tendency to drinking. Mercury, Moon afflicted by Neptune in any chart inclines the mind to drink, drugs, unnatural conditions, etc...

Venus in Taurus rules the palate and if squared by Saturn , it gives fondness for wine and drunkiness through exaggeration.

Statistically, a strong Sagittarius rising or by Sun sign,  afflicted with Moon & Neptune makes drunkard and if you go to Alcoholic Anonymous, you will see many are Sagittarius.

Jupiter rules excesses and when badly aspected, it gives accesses to food and drinking. Those who don't drink under this influence are usually overweight (Jupiter = expansion) and vice-versa.

edit...Pisces are fond of food and under affliction, will tend toward drugs and/or drinking.

Excellent question! I'm wondering the same thing myself.  Of course, like any illness it could be a physical emotional or spiritual problem. I'm not sure it would stem from astrological charts. I do know Pisces people tend to be prone to addiction.
