What attempts have been made to bring Newtonian science to notice of a wider public?

Many things in nature are hidden from us but what is set done in physics as a science is undoubtable. General principles can explain countless phenomena and effects and deduced by mathematical demonstration.

Well I need to look at this passage but I think that Newtonian science wasn't actually made for the wider public as it was written in Latin what not everybody could understand and it had alot to do with mathematics which was difficult to understand and therefore just for wealthy people, or am i wrong?

Can somebody help please.

  1. when Newton's principia was published, it was said that noone could understand it.  Always the way with totally new concepts.

The same was said of Einstein and relativity.

But because the concepts were so powerful and useful, anyone studying phsyics soon got the hang of it.

It's a failure of the dumbed down education system that not everyone understands Newton's laws of motion and gravitation.

  2. Schools do it all the time - it's called GCSE Physics.

  3. Newton used to get so annoyed with the general public questioning his theories that when he wrote the principia mathimatica he deliberately made it hard to follow.

Even modern day degree level physics students can find it hard going. His problem was that people would fail to understand his proofs and then question his theories (which he considerd to be proven, which they pretty much were).

He was such a bad lecturer that after his first lecture (which was poorly attended due to his reputation) no one came to the subsequent ones.

  4. Is this a historical question?

I don't think that in those times science was something for the wide public, it was more of an elite area of knowledge.

  5. Excuse me, but this the 21st. century, not the 18th. You have been asleep.
