Question:

What attracts insects more, heat or light? And why?

I need it for my Science Investigatory Project so please be sure of your answer. And what is the best type of insect to use for this experiment? I need it as soon as possible. Thanks.

  1. Lights. Insects are magnetics upon lights because this is their enegy like food to keep them warn and also to show them directions.

  3. Hi!! It's me (Li D. ^_~). I think light attracts insects more. I researched a little and found out that insects wouldn't continuously fly round fluorescent light bulbs the same way they do with the incandescent ones (I found it here in Yahoo Answers ^_^ (and I don't know why though). Well, if you want, you may try experimenting. Try this: go outside (maybe you could do it inside but I think it's a better idea to do it outside because it might attract insects around the house) and try lighting a flashlight (I dunno if it works though, just try, if it doesn't, well, maybe you can use something else) then light a match (or something that is hot like incandescent lamps) and see which attracts more insects.
