I just recently finished upgrades of the exterior, and have been finally looking into upgrading my audio system. Im pretty knowledgeable about cars and whatnot, but have no experience with audio speakers, amps, decks, etc. Mainly what im looking for is some help or suggestions into what to look into. I dont want anything too too exspensive, but at the same time dont want anything cheap either, something that I will be happy with for a while.

Any suggestions, help, advice, or any personal experience or personal set-ups would be greatly appreciated.

  1. if you want to bump good and not spend alot of money, check out Fi subwoofers.

their entry level is even much better than kicker L7's. dont ask how i know.

i currently run some of their higher end subs with some custom made options and its insane on one of my vehicles.

on the daily, i only have one 18 inch btl.

for an amplifier, i would recommend you either a Bxi Hifonics series amplifier, or a XXV Hifonics amplifer.

they are very reliable and its the best bang for the buck you could ever find. ive also seen some of the cheap branded amps get smoked quick or dont last long.

    any questions, hit me up.

  2. yeah crutchfield is a great place to research but if u want to buy online go to

    http://www.sonicelectronix.com/

the following are the brands the i prefer

    stereo- pioneer and eclipse

    speakers- jbl and polk audio

    subwoofers-mtx and kicker

    amps- kenwood and jl audio

    tweeters- infinity

installation- mom and pop spots or swapmeets

  3. just follow this rule and you be be golden- ALWAYS buy from CEA-compliant companies (which means that the amp produces or exceeds the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion and that the subs can handle their rated RMS wattage also)

non CEA-compliant companies really over rate their stuff, you would be lucky to get half of the advertised RMSwattage from their amps and if you supplied the rated RMS wattage to the subs they could not handle it (or they would be distorted)- and if you don't know the REAL RMS wattage of your amp and/or subs it is impossible to properly match them

here are the top CEA-compliant brands

    Alpine (highly recommend)

    Bazooka (don't like their subs)

    Blaupunkt (don't like their subs)

    Clarion

    Eclipse

    Infinity (highly recommend)

    JBL

JL Audio (very good but over priced)

    Kenwood (don't like their subs)

Kicker (the best in my opinion)

    MTX (highly recommend)

    Pioneer

    Polk Audio (highly recommend)

    Rockford Fosgate (highly recommend)

    Sony (don't like their subs)

  4. i would suggest going to www.crutchfield.com  this website will allow you to put you make and model of your truck and it will also give you a list of all the stuff that will fit in your installation.  like head units, custom sub enclosures, and door speakers.  I highly recommend this website.
