I'm wondering what babies really need in the first couple months.Like how many pairs of socks, and shoes, and onesies, and burp cloths, and receiving blankets, and regular blankets, and just all that kind of stuff. I dont want to go over board. My baby is due within the month, and I just want to make sure we have everythign we need and around the right amount of what we need. Also How many diapers did you baby use the first couple weeks?

  1. Diapers:  Plan on right around 10 per day for the first 2 to 3 weeks;  socks at least 1 pair per day; shoes I didn't even bother with, just used socks; onesies probably 2 per day; blankets probably the same 2 per day.  I used brand new cloth diapers for burp cloths, they are smaller and wash up quickly. You wouldn't believe that one little baby can create so much new laundry so plan on washing an extra load every day.  Congrats.

  2. the first few months my little girl dirtied (or wet) around 12-14 diapers daily. onesies and blankies just prepare to use a couple a day because of leaky diapers or spit up. shoes aren't necessary until they can walk.I advise you to get a sleep sheep or something similar , it helps so much with their sleeping and not getting woken up as easily. oh and congrats on your baby.

  3. My breast fed daughter (it does make a difference on diaper changes) went through roughly 10-12 diapers a day. Diapers are a huge must, don't worry about buying too many - I highly doubt you will! I got 15 or 16 packs of diapers for my shower ranging between size NB-2 (mostly NB) and still had to buy several packs.

I would say between 10-15 onesies, my daughter spit up for the first 3 months or so which caused me to go through 2-3 onesies a day with that, plus diaper blow-outs causing another 1-2 onesies a day... lots of laundry :(

Same goes with receiving blankets/burp cloths, I would say maybe 15 or so (maybe more depending on how often you want to run her laundry). For regular blankets in the beginning (my daughter was born in january) I had roughly 6-8 softy-blankets and 3-crocheted blankets. Once we hit May(ish) and she was bigger, I got rid of several of them. Now I think we have/use 3 softy-blankets and 1-crocheted one.

Socks you don't really need to many of considering they really don't get too dirty or anything, I think a few pairs would be plenty. You really don't "need" shoes until he/she is older, although I had several pairs because I love baby shoes!

LOTS AND LOTS of wipes or washcloths too (depending on which route you are taking with that).

for the first couple weeks, all the baby will probably do is eat, sleep and p**p/pee so everything that isn't around that you probably won't need until months 2 or 3.

GOOD LUCK & CONGRATS on your upcoming baby!!!
