  1. well depending on when you are due you need to pick out appropriate clothes... if you have a washer/dryer in your home you can probably get away with 5-10 outfits, get both newborn & 0-3 months, seemed like my son spent no time in his newborn clothes

blankets and burp cloths... you will go through these like mad

what are you planning for your baby to sleep in? I though a basinet was a waste of money, I used a pack n' play til we moved him to his crib around 6 weeks

I skipped the changing table, used a dresser with a changing pad on it or just a blanket on the floor

    a baby tub is useful

a glider or rocking chair is very helpful, just be sure you can easily rise from it, I had to go buy a new chair cuz I couldn't easily get up when holding my sleeping baby

a bouncey seat and or swing, my son loved his bouncey seat right away never really cared for the swing but i've hear most babies love them

a stroller, car seat and carrier... we used a graco travel system and it worked great

a few toys, don't go overboard here the baby likely won't care about toys for awhile now, but a mobile would be nice for the crib... one with lights & music

you can look at the stores recommend purchases but remember they are a business and they want to sell you stuff, use there list for things like diapers, wipes, baby soap, bottles (if you need them) but be skeptical when they tell you, you need a diaper genie... ok face it dirty diapers smell, any trash can with a cover will help but once it's opened it WILL stink :)

that's all I’m coming up with, I’m sure there is more so use a list form the store as a guide but don't for one second think you really NEED every thing on it

  2. you can never have too many onsies in all different sizes (is that how you spell it?), blankets, WIPES!!! I really like the baby tee shirts that snap once in the front, they allow air to hit the umbilical cord helping the healing process. Never can have too many sleepers in all different sizes. Dreft laundry detergant. I want to go shopping too but I don't know what the s*x is and I can't stand the green or yellow colors. Have fun!!!

  3. You really don't need as much as most people may tell you or the stores will tell you to buy.  As a mother of twins I can tell you most of the stuff that I was told was critical never even got used.  You will need the following for real.......and you will end up saving tons of money if you skip the list at the stores or what some overzelous mother or mother in law will try to tell you have to have.

Diapers, buy them when the baby comes home and you know what size they are actually needing instead of trying to return/exchange something.  They won't let you return any baby stuff without the recipt.  The baby will be with you in the hospital for 1-3 days after they are born so you will have time to get someone to go buy whatever size you need.  Register at www.pampers.com now and they will start sending you new baby stuff and lots of coupons.  Pampers are awesome and are worth the cost since they hold up better.  Huggies are in second place.  Luvs suck.

Butt paste.  You will need this for years so if you want to stock up a little it is ok.  I tried all the expensive ones but have been most happy with Balmex and you can normally find $1 off coupons online on multiple online coupons sites or the Balmex site itself.  They are all made with the same ingredients don't be fooled into paying $14 for the stufff.

Onsies.  If it is summer they can go with just their diaper most of the time in the house but onsies when it isn't as warm or when you go out.  They grow fast so don't buy a million in one size.

Wash clothes for burp clothes.  We bought two packages of Walmart white wash clothes that they sell like 40 to a pack.  I washed them about three times each before using.  You will go through so many of these each day that it is a total waste of money to buy fancy Tigger or whomever burp clothes.  I bleached them each time and they are still in good shape and my boys are nearly 2 now.

Don't give in and buy an expensive 4 in 1 crib.  You will probably never use the crib past the crib stage.  You can buy a regular toddler bed that will make your child happier than the weird bed conversion you get with the crib converted into a toddler bed.  We paid $500 each for the 4 in 1 cribs and got rid of the cribs when the boys were around 1 and got them race car beds which kept us from ever needing bed rails since the bed is designed to keep the child in the bed with the design.  We won't keep these forever either but it is a way better and cheaper solution than the 4 in 1 crib rip off.  They will also chew the wood as soon as they get teeth and who wants a full size bed that is all chewed on in their young childs room?  Scam really.  Find a crib you like but no need to pay more for the 4 in 1 thing.

Skip the changing table, if you have a bed use the bed for free.  If you want you can get one of those thick changing pads which is sloped inward so the baby can't roll onto the floor, but they also outgrow the changing table quickly and now you have a useless piece of furniture that you can't really use for anything else.

A good couple light baby blankets to tuck over the baby in the car seat.  Nothing crazy thick and hot, just something that is cotton and easy to tuck.  I liked the ones that looked like the old style thermal underwear best.

Go to www.enfamil.com and order your formula directly online after the child is born if you plan on using formula at all.  Buying from them is way cheaper than any store including Walmart and there is zero shipping and zero tax.  We found the easiest formula to use was the liquid concentrate and it was only 1 cent more expensive then the really messy and hard to use powder.    They will also send you free formula when you baby is born if you sign up with that program.  You can get information from your doctor about it or by reading there site.  With twins we got a months free supply!

Don't shop at Babies R Us, they are a rip off.  But do shop at a good Toys R Us.  They have the largest cases of diapers you can find in a retail store and they always have in store promos that you can combine with Sunday paper coupons.

Go easy on buying any clothes.  They will outgrow everything quickly early on.  If you have crazy family and friends let them spend all their money on going overboard, but you can get buy with a few clothing items and be totally fine until the grow again.

Pretty easy list huh?  Newborns are easy, they sleep most of the time and the rest of the time you are taking them for doctor visits the first 6 months or so.  Not a lot needed to have a newborn for a smart parent.

All the money you save you can open a 529 college fund for your child.  One of the best in the country is the state of Utah's.  You can have one there even if you don't live in Utah.  The site is www.uesp.org.

    Good luck!

  4. Don't buy alot of 0-3 months outfits....they just grow out of them too fast. I would  go with more of the size 1 diapers than newborn, for the same the reason. You need alot of burp cloths and bibs...... they are life savers. A boppy is also nice to have. My son loves his bouncey seat and swing, it allows me to get some things around the house done. I wouldn't get a bassinet but I would get a playyard that converts to a bassinet, most of them have changing tables in them also. The Johnson and Johnson lavender bath and lotion is great. If you are bottle feeding then I would suggest Dr. Brown's b/c I have been through just about every bottle there is out there.

  5. First thing I would say is don't buy alot of 0-3 clothes a few outfits will be good enough because they grow out of them so fast..get ALOT of sleepers..my baby was in sleepers nonstop for the first couple months..if you are bottle feeding have bottles...you do not need a changing table like others are saying..its useless and not needed at all..a blanket on the couch or floor will do the same thing..i had one and never used it..don't buy alot of newborn diapers one pack should be good..stock up on size 1 and size 2..they are in them for awhile..the hospital will give you a pacifier if you want your baby to have one..you don't really need any toys for the first 6 months but if you want to buy them now then buy a few rattles..bath supplies are a good thing to buy..you don't need a bathtub either the sink works just as good and easier since you wont be bending down to bath them..a carseat and stroller are handy..also a swing it was my lifesaver when my daughter turned 4 months she didn't care for it before then..and a bouncy chair that vibrates was a lifesaver the first 4 months because she loved it..

  6. BOUNCY/VIBRATING SEAT or SWING

    INCREDIBLY HELPFUL!!!

YOU WONT BE ABLE TO LIVE WITHOUT IT

  7. dear god woman, you want to know everything? lol

I'll short list it for ya. I have: Many many diapers, wipes, diaper bag, bottles, breast pump (didn't need it, expressing works so much better) baby powder, baby lotion, baby soap, tub for washing baby. Stroller, car seat, toys, exisaucer, swing, bouncy chair, crib, many many onsies, a lot of sleepers, socks, hats, pants, shorts, spoons, cups for making cereal in, pacis, rattles, teething rings, infant tylenol, vitamins (you don't have to, I do)  I left out change table because you don't really need it, I use either the floor, the couch or the bed. If your going to breast feeding then I HIGHLY recommend breast pads!!!

  8. In general any list you find online, especially at a place that sells baby items, is going to be way too long.  I've had 4 children and am expecting my 5th.  Here's what I have for the first 5 months, though it could be pared down if need be:

bassinet by our bed (can always use playpen or crib from beginning)

    infant car seat

    stroller

disposable newborn diapers for first 2 weeks

cloth prefold diapers, nylon covers, fleece liners, cloth washclothes, pins

    diaper bag

diaper pail (for cloth, disposable just go in the kitchen trash)

at least 6 sleepers in 0-3 mth and in 3-6 mth

    newborn hat

little bibs for drooling (solids shouldn't start until 6 mths)

    2 receiving blankets

    nursing pads

    burpclothes

    baby bath wash

bouncy chair (starting at about 2 mths)

    infant carrier

teething rings & 1/2 small toys

Standard recommendations that I don't bother with....  I don't go with all the onesies and gowns and a gazillion other things they recommend, just sleepers.  I don't have a swing.  I don't do pacifiers.  I breastfeed, but don't have a pump.  Obviously if you will be pumping or formula-feeding, you'll need additional items.  I don't have a changing table, just use changing pad on our bed and keep diaper stuff underneath or in a drawer.  Don't need a high chair or other feeding items until 6 months because solids shouldn't start earlier.  I don't do baby bathtubs.  I just sponge bath on a changing pad 2x/wk until they can sit well on own (diaper area wiped with cloth washcloth at changings).  You don't need Dreft laundry detergent; you can just get an unscented one.  And I'm sure there are many other items on lists that I would skip.
