I used to work at Wamu but I am thinking I should switch banks, does anyone know which one pays more for a teller position?

  1. Without knowing what state you live in, I'm not certain which banks are available, so I'll generalize.

Typically, credit unions pay best (for teller).  The average teller salary in my area is around $10/hr (this is what I was making when I left Wachovia in early '07).  However, the credit union I work for now starts tellers (with no/little experience) at $12.

Credit unions usually pay more because they are not-for-profit, so they are able to pay better salaries and give better benefits because they are not giving profits back to shareholders.  Credit unions are focused on service so they have an interest in keeping employees happy to ensure good service.

The banks I have worked for usually give significant increases after 6 months or after training as well.

Switching would be a good idea.  Good luck!
