What bank would you recommend?

Here is the situation (and please if you are going to judge me in your answer, just don't bother as I already beat myself up over the situation and I'm not asking to get beat up some more). A few years ago I got myself into some trouble with approximately 3 banks (I was young and stupid). I had negative credit with SunTrust, Bank of America, and Wachovia. I now have an excellent job and am now fixing my credit, including chexsystems. The problem is...no bank wants to give me a checking account (big surprise there, huh?).

My question is that I am about to apply to Transportation Alliance Bank and Fidelity Investments mySmart Cash Account. Has anybody heard of these banks as being more trustworthy than others in giving people bank accounts who have made mistakes?

Please don't tell me that I need to fix chexsystems...I am presently doing that and am going to keep doing that until the matter is resolved.

Ten points to whoever can give me a good, unbiased answer. Thank you!

  1. First - why bother with a bank?  Credit Unions are usually much more forgiving and most employers have some sort of a relationship with a credit union.

Where you ever in the military? You might look up one of the credit unions that serves vets... Navy Federal, Pentagon Federal....to name a few.

My first stop would be to check out the benefits offered thru your employer - use them. If they have a credit union as a benefit use them until you get your credit straightened out.

If they don't offer one thru your job - look in the community - nothing ventured nothing gained.

If that doesn't yield any results - does your employer have direct deposit? If so approach that bank to open an account....

DO NOT USE A CREDIT REPAIR COMPANY - they can't do anything you couldn't do on your own - there is no magic fix. Sounds like you're on the right track.

    Good luck
