i'm going to say a 1" or 1 1/2".

Looks like at least a 1" barrel curling iron. Get a tourmaline curling iron that gets very hot. The hotter it goes, the better the curls will come out. Use some light hold spray too, so that they stay in place and not too stiff at the same time.
