During BMT you get to make a list of 5 bases that you want to go to, so I would like to know what are some of the best Air Force bases based from your guys experience at them.

  1. I loved Peterson and the AF Academy in Colorado  There is so much to do in Colorado and it's beautiful.  Hiking, skiing, snowboarding, shopping, hunting..you name it..they've got it except for the beach :0)

I also enjoyed Langley AFB in Virginia.  It's the heart of history and again, a beautiful area.  There is tons of history there (Yorktown, Jamestown), there are festivals on the beach, great shopping, plenty to keep you busy!

RAF LAkenheath and RAF MIldenhall.  Awesome.  I'd go there again in a heartbeat.  It's England, what more can I say.

Ramstien AB is a dream.  There is so much to do and you can day trip just about anywhere.

I personally, don't like Eglin.  I'm at Eglin now and it just bad.  The area is full of tourists in the sumemr and snowbirds in the winter.  It's crowded and overpriced.   There isn't much to do for families.  If you are single, there are TONS of clubs on the beach but again, overpriced.  You can only go to the beach with the thousands of other people so many times.  The hurricanes are a pain in the ***.  You have to drop everything and get out of town.   You pay for it out-of-pocket or you use you Govt. card and end up waiting forever to be reimbursed.  Renter's insurance is expensive because of the hurricanes and if you buy a house, you'll pay a fortune for home insurance.

  2. My suggestion would be to put in for Guam, it counts as a remote tour but you're still on American soil. After that you get to choose your next base. A lot depends on what your AFSC is as to where you want to go. I was at Charleston AFB, SC and its a really nice base and is about 30mins from the beach, if that.

  3. misawa air base in japan has been my favorite base so far..we are in south georgia..stay away...lol...my second favorite would be luke in phoenix arizona..colorado is gorgeous..the weather was just a killer

  4. Well ill give u one, Eglin Air Force base in florida. My neighbors son is there, where he commands the 33rd fighter wing. He makes about 165k per year with all his flight time and years, hes colonel. They let him bring his horses he had when he was stationed at utah, they had a ranch there, so if Eglin has a ranch, they have a lot more.
