  1. The purely air battle of Pearl Harbour was (unfortunately) a sound piece of planning and execution by Japanese forces which almost destroyed the entire American Pacific fleet whilst at anchor in Hawaii. It was 'Significant' in that it instantly brought American forces into WW11 which ultimately spelt the loss of the war for the axis forces.

The fall of Singapore and Hong Kong were also major Japanese victories as were their major progresses in Indo China.

  2. I read that Japan actually launched an invasion of Alaska, they took like a few islands thats sticking out, but still, that is significant. I think thats the only time in history where another nation has claimed a piece of land in America that is part of a state. Alaska was a state at the time I think. They also won battles against the French and the Dutch during the war, plus they fought Russia close to the end of the war.

  3. At first, they were almost unstoppable. They had already attacked and conquered much of China before Pearl Harbor. Then, starting in December of 1941, they took over the Philippines, much of southeast Asia, Taiwan, most of Indonesia and Malaysia, and the Solomon Islands. These battles gave them control of an area from just north of Australia to Alaska!

It wasn't until the Battle of the Coral sea in May of 1942 that they even lost a major battle. After they lost the Battle of Midway the following month, their victories became few and soon stopped altogether.
