  1. Unfortunately "Big" isn't the best word to describe it.  More like lesser evil.  Best bet wait for a Hurricane or move to California.

Try exploring some of the beaches in the mid to north section of Florida.  I have a buddy that lives out there and a few times a year there are some good waves.  Watch out for sharks though.  Try to explore some of the states in between New York and Florida you may get lucky.  But really visit a surf site, watch the swells/storms and be ready to travel.

  2. i dont know so much about up north (MD, NJ, NY), but i know that NC and FL can handle big swell and still stay rideable. the biggest waves depend on swell location and direction in proximity to the beach you are looking at.

    i prefer NC.

  3. The Outer Banks of North Carolina.  Most consistent for larger waves although here are some other stand out spots such as Montauk in NY or Reef Road in Miami on a hurricane swell.

  4. i surf at wrightsville beach NC and when a swell comes it is like the best place to surf. especially in winter. there are some great waves there. once i think it got to doubble over head. i didnt get to surf it though because i wasnt there! but anyways, it really is fun surfing there. hope this helps.
