What beaches have the clear blue sea water in Florida?

We took a family vacation to Florida this spring and went to New Smyrna beach and Disney of course. We are going back next year but really want to see that clear blue water that you see in the movies. The problem is that we don't know where to go. Is that in the Gulf of Mexico? Any advice like exact locations or web links would be awesome.

  1. Without going to the Caribbean Islands to see those beautiful shades of blue water, you best bet in Florida is along the Florida Keys...especially betweeen Marathon and Key West. Simply amazing there. If that's too far out of the way...here's just a few others (all on the lower Gulf Coast)...

The beach at the southern end of Long Key...directly west of St. Petersburg.

The beach on Mullet Key, just southwest of St. Petersburg. Especially around the pier at Fort Desoto Park and north of the pier.

The southern end of Bradenton Beach, west of Bradenton.

The northern end of Siesta Key, directly west of Sarasota.

The beaches at Boca Grande / Gasparilla Island...just west of Port Charlotte.

The central area of the beach on Sanibel island usually has some nice color. It's just west of Fort Myers.

And finally, the beaches on Marco Island are usually colorful.

    Enjoy.

  2. The Caribbean  is wonderful not sure of any others but the water in Hawaii is also spectacular.

  3. I highly recommend Destin Beach in the panhandle south of Pensacola.  Beautiful white sugar sand, clear blue waters, and the town is fun too.  Less crowded than Daytona by far.  I had a great time when I visited my friend living in nearby Niceville.

It may be a ways out of your way though if you're planning on staying in the Orlando area.

  4. duh clearwater beach.  http://www.clearwater-fl.com/

it's the gulf side.  that's how they define the beaches.  gulf side on the west and atlantic side on the east.

  5. Head on down to Miami or The Keys.

I live about an hour away from New Smyrna on the coast, and I know the waters a dirty brown because of all the waves.

I just got back from a trip to The Keys and they have fantastically blue, calm water.

It's a great place to take a family trip, there's awesome snorkeling and resorts!

Miami also has very, very clear, calm water. It's less of a drive, but in my opinion, it isn't as family friendly.

Also! The water is MUCH warmer.

EDIT: I took this picture when I was in The Keys a week ago
